Bioscape Spider Wood XLarge 50 - 60cm
Six extra-large spider wood pieces sized to anchor a full aquascape around a single natural centrepiece. Bioscape Spider Wood XLarge is the largest grade in the range – 50–60 cm pieces with the same fine, twisting branch structure as the smaller grades, scaled up to carry a large tank on its own rather than needing extra pieces layered around it.
Key features
- 6 pieces per pack – extra-large scale, so a single piece can anchor an aquascape rather than needing multiple pieces wired together.
- 50–60 cm branch length – sized for large display tanks and showpiece layouts rather than nano or mid-size setups.
- Lower tannin release – spider wood leaches noticeably less tannin than Mopani or Malaysian driftwood.
- Every piece unique – natural wood, so shape, thickness and colour vary piece to piece; pieces are selected at random.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for large freshwater display tanks, showpiece aquascapes and terrarium or paludarium builds needing a substantial natural branch structure. Not intended for reef or marine aquariums – driftwood is a freshwater and terrarium hardscape material, not a marine one.
Care and maintenance
Bioscape dries this wood out for lightweight shipping, so fresh pieces will float. At this size, expect them to take longer to waterlog than smaller pieces – weigh pieces down firmly with rock or slate, or hold them under an already-anchored piece, for at least a week and likely longer given the larger mass of wood. Boiling speeds saturation but needs a pot large enough for a 50–60 cm piece. A harmless white biofilm often appears on new wood in the first week or two and is typically grazed off by fish, shrimp and snails. Expect some tannin release, milder than Mopani or Malaysian driftwood; run activated carbon if you'd rather keep the water clear than tinted.
Goes well with
Pairs naturally with fine-leaved aquarium mosses and epiphytic plants that attach to wood, plus the Small 20–30 cm spider wood pack for filling in detail branches around the centrepiece.
Warranty and delivery
As a natural material, this product doesn't carry a manufacturing warranty in the usual sense, but your purchase is still protected by your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Given the size and weight of XLarge pieces, freight may take longer to arrive than smaller parcel items.
Common questions
Why won't my spider wood sink?
It's normal, especially at this size. Bioscape dries the wood for shipping, so large pieces need extra time and firm weighting to waterlog and sink on their own.
Will it stain my water?
It will release some tannins, giving the water a light tint over time, but noticeably less than Mopani or Malaysian driftwood. Activated carbon will clear the tint if wanted.
Will the 6 pieces all be a similar shape?
No – this is natural wood, so shape, thickness and colour vary from piece to piece, and pieces are selected at random rather than matched to a set look.
Is one XLarge piece enough for a large tank, or do I need to combine sizes?
One XLarge piece can anchor a display on its own; many aquascapers add a Small 20–30 cm pack around it for finer branching detail rather than relying on XLarge pieces alone.
Can I use it outside an aquarium, in a terrarium or paludarium?
Yes – spider wood's branching habit is used across freshwater aquascaping, terrarium and paludarium builds.
