Bioscape Tropic Air Pump 2000 Single w/Check Valve

More lift for tanks up to 50 litres, still one line. The Bioscape Tropic 2000 is a single-outlet air pump that steps up from the entry-level Tropic 1000, moving roughly double the air — 138 litres an hour — through one line. It's the pick when a tank sits toward the top of the small-tank range, or when an airstone or ornament sits a little deeper and needs more push to bubble evenly. A check valve is included.

Key features
  • 138 L/h single-outlet output — roughly double the Tropic 1000, for tanks toward 50 L or deeper-set airstones.
  • Check valve included — protects the pump from back-siphon if it's mounted at or below the waterline.
  • Energy-efficient diaphragm motor — designed for continuous running.
  • Freshwater and marine safe — one pump across community, planted or nano marine setups.
  • Compact footprint — no plumbing into the tank itself.

Which Tropic air pump do I need?

The 2000 earns its place over the entry-level 1000 when the tank runs toward the top of the small-tank bracket, or when the airline needs to push a little further against water depth. For two airlines at once, neither the 1000 nor the 2000 is the right choice — both are single-outlet.

Model Outlets Output Tank size Speed control
Tropic 1000 Single 60 L/h Up to 45 L No
Tropic 2000 Single 138 L/h 25–50 L No
Tropic 3000 Twin 360 L/h total 50–300 L No
Tropic 4000 Twin 360 L/h total Up to 300 L Yes — stepless
Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for a single airline in a 25–50 L freshwater or marine tank — one airstone, sponge filter or ornament. Not suitable for running two air-driven devices from one outlet, and not sized for tanks over about 50 L — move to the twin-outlet Tropic 3000 or 4000 for those.

Safety

Mains-powered — position the pump above the aquarium's waterline where possible, and always keep the check valve fitted on the airline if the pump sits at or below water level, to stop back-siphoning if power drops out.

Care and maintenance

Keep the housing dry and the intake vents dust-free. A gradual drop in output over time usually means the internal diaphragm needs replacing, not the whole pump.

Warranty and delivery

Covered under Bioscape's manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery.

Goes well with
  • Airline tubing — to run from the pump to the airstone or ornament.
  • Airstones or air-driven ornaments — sized to the pump's single outlet.
  • Sponge filter — a common single-line pairing for breeding and nano tanks.
Common questions

What's the real difference between the Tropic 1000 and 2000?

Output. The 2000 moves roughly double the air of the 1000 through the same single outlet — worth it once the tank nudges toward 50 L or the airstone sits deeper in the water column.

Can I run two airstones off the 2000?

Not well from one outlet — splitting the line reduces flow to both. For two lines, choose the twin-outlet Tropic 3000 or 4000.

Does it need a check valve if it sits beside the tank, above the waterline?

It's still worth fitting — it protects against back-siphon if the pump is later moved, unplugged, or loses power near water level.

Is it reef safe?

Yes, Bioscape rates it for both freshwater and marine use, including nano reef sumps.
