Bioscape Tropic Hydro Half Moon Tropical Aquarium Unit
One box brings filtration, lighting and heating to a nano tank. The Bioscape Tropic Hydro Half Moon is a 12 L rimless aquarium with a bowed half-moon front for a wide, distortion-softened view of the display. It comes with a built-in power filter, a low-voltage LED light bar and a 25 W heater, so a first tropical nano setup needs little beyond substrate, decor, livestock and a stand rated for its filled weight.
Key features
- Half-moon front — bowed, rimless glass gives a wider, less distorted view than a flat-fronted nano tank of the same footprint.
- Built-in filtration — an internal power filter rated at 300 L/h keeps water moving through mechanical and biological media without a separate canister or hang-on unit.
- Low-voltage LED lighting — a 15 x 0.06 W, 12 V DC LED bar lights the display without adding meaningfully to running costs.
- Built-in heater — a 25 W solid-state heater is fitted into the unit, so tropical stocking doesn't need a separate heater bought and fitted.
- 4 mm rimless glass — a clean, bead-free look with no top or bottom trim.

Will it fit your space?
At roughly 35 x 22 x 25 cm and 12 L filled, this suits a desktop, benchtop or shelf rather than a floor-standing display. It needs a level, stable surface rated for the tank's filled weight — Bioscape sells the unit as the aquarium only, so the surface or stand underneath it is your choice and responsibility.
What's included, and what's not
Included: the rimless half-moon tank, the built-in internal power filter, the LED light bar and the 25 W heater.
Not included: a stand, substrate, decor, a thermometer, test kit or livestock. Bioscape's published specification does not separately confirm a glass lid on this unit — if a lid matters for your setup (jumping fish, evaporation, curious pets), check with us before you buy.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for tropical freshwater community fish, bettas and shrimp in a nano setup. Not suitable for marine or reef stocking — this unit is sold and specified as a freshwater tropical aquarium — and not suitable for fish that need more swimming room than a 12 L footprint allows.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the internal filter media in tank water (never tap water) when it starts to clog, rather than on a fixed calendar — how often depends on stocking and feeding. Wipe the curved front with a soft pad rather than a razor scraper; blades are made for flat glass and can mark a bowed panel.
Safety
Runs on 220-240 V AC, suiting the Australian 230 V/50 Hz supply. As with any aquarium electrical, plug into a GPO protected by an RCD, keep the heater fully submerged while powered, and unplug the unit before reaching into the tank for maintenance.
Goes well with
A stand or piece of furniture rated for the tank's filled weight, a fine aquascaping substrate, a thermometer, and a tropical flake or pellet food sized for nano stocking.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. As a glass aquarium, handle and unpack carefully — chips or cracks from a drop aren't a warranty fault.
Common questions
Does it include everything I need to start?
No — the tank, filter, light and heater are built in, but you'll still need substrate, decor, a stand and livestock before it's ready to stock.
Is a stand included?
No. Choose a surface or stand rated for the tank's filled weight before you set it up.
Can I keep marine fish in it?
No — it's specified and sold as a freshwater tropical aquarium, not a marine or reef setup.
How loud is the built-in filter?
Bioscape doesn't publish a noise rating for this filter. Internal filters of this size are typically quiet once bedded in, but if noise matters in a bedroom or office, ask us before you buy.
What glass thickness is the tank made from?
4 mm, in a rimless half-moon build.
