Bioscape Hang on BIS501 Motor

Get a heavily stocked Large hang-on filter back to its full 750 L/h. This is the genuine replacement motor for the Bioscape Hang On Power Filter Large (BIS501) – rated for aquariums 114–152 L, the size bracket where a weak motor shows up fastest as cloudy water and rising nitrate. If flow has dropped off or the unit has stopped altogether, this part is the direct fit for the Large housing.

Key features
  • Genuine fit for BIS501 – built specifically for the Large Bioscape hang-on filter.
  • Restores rated flow – brings the filter back to its full 750 L/h output.
  • No new filter needed – replaces the worn motor inside the existing housing.
  • Matters more at this size – a 114–152 L tank carries more bioload than a nano setup, so an underperforming motor is felt sooner in water clarity and nitrate.
Which motor do I need?

Bioscape's hang-on filter range comes in four sizes, and each has its own motor. Check the model number printed on your filter body, or match it against the tank size it's rated for:

Filter model Flow rate Tank size Replacement motor
Small (BIS499) 350 L/h 19–38 L BIS524
Medium (BIS500) 550 L/h 76–114 L BIS525
Large (BIS501) 750 L/h 114–152 L BIS528 – this product
X Large (BIS502) 1,000 L/h 152–288 L BIS526

Care and maintenance

Rinse the impeller and impeller well whenever you service the filter – at this flow rate, a partially clogged impeller well is the most common cause of a filter that sounds fine but isn't moving much water. If a clean impeller still won't turn freely, or the motor hums without turning it, the motor has failed.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against manufacturing defects on arrival, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel item with the rest of your order.

Common questions

How do I confirm my filter is the Large (BIS501)?

Check the model number on the filter body or box. If it's not visible, match it against the size: 750 L/h, rated for 114–152 L tanks.

Will this fit the Medium or X Large filter?

No. Each size in the range uses its own motor – use the comparison table above to find the right part.

Is the impeller included with this motor?

Check the condition of your existing impeller before ordering – it's a separate wear part, and if it's worn or cracked it may need replacing alongside the motor.

Would fitting a Large motor to a Medium filter give me more flow?

No – this motor is matched to the Large housing only and isn't a drop-in upgrade for a smaller filter body.
