Bioscape Hang on BIS502 Motor

Keep a large display tank's hang-on filter running at its full 1,000 L/h. This is the genuine replacement motor for the Bioscape Hang On Power Filter X Large (BIS502) — the top of the range, rated for aquariums 152–288 L. On a tank this size, a tired motor is easy to miss until water clarity slips, so a straightforward motor swap is usually cheaper and faster than replacing the whole filter.

Key features
  • Genuine fit for BIS502 — built specifically for the X Large Bioscape hang-on filter, the largest in the range.
  • Restores rated flow — brings the filter back to its full 1,000 L/h output.
  • No new filter needed — replaces the worn motor inside the existing housing.
  • Sized for bigger tanks — rated for aquariums up to 288 L, where turnover matters most.
Which motor do I need?

Bioscape's hang-on filter range comes in four sizes, and each has its own motor. Check the model number printed on your filter body, or match it against the tank size it's rated for:

Filter model Flow rate Tank size Replacement motor
Small (BIS499) 350 L/h 19–38 L BIS524
Medium (BIS500) 550 L/h 76–114 L BIS525
Large (BIS501) 750 L/h 114–152 L BIS528
X Large (BIS502) 1,000 L/h 152–288 L BIS526 — this product

Bioscape doesn't publish a separate wattage figure for the X Large motor, so it isn't listed here rather than guessing.

Not included

This is the motor unit only. Filter cartridges, bio media, the surface skimmer attachment and the filter housing itself are sold separately.

Care and maintenance

Rinse the impeller and impeller well whenever you service the filter. On the X Large unit, debris build-up around the impeller is the most common reason flow drops off gradually rather than stopping outright. If a clean impeller still won't spin, or the motor hums without turning it, the motor needs replacing.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against manufacturing defects on arrival, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel item with the rest of your order.

Common questions

How do I confirm my filter is the X Large (BIS502)?

Check the model number on the filter body or box. If it's not visible, match it against the size: 1,000 L/h, rated for 152–288 L tanks.

Will this fit the Large filter instead?

No. The Large (BIS501) uses a different motor rated to 750 L/h — use the comparison table above to find the right part for your filter.

My tank is near the top of the 288 L rating — is a new filter a better option than repairing this one?

If the filter body, media basket and skimmer are otherwise in good condition, replacing just the motor restores full performance at a fraction of the cost of a new unit.

Does a failing motor affect biological filtration as well as flow?

Yes — reduced flow through the media basket means less water contact with the bio media, which can let ammonia and nitrite creep up even before flow loss is obvious elsewhere.
