Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for marine, brackish and hard-water freshwater setups such as African cichlid tanks, where a calcium-carbonate shell fits the water chemistry the fish already need. Not recommended for soft-water, blackwater or acid-loving planted tanks – like any real shell, it will slowly dissolve and raise pH and hardness over time, which is unwanted in those setups.
Care and maintenance
Rinse thoroughly under running water before adding it to the tank to clear dust and any loose fragments. Being a genuine shell rather than resin, expect a slow, gradual effect on hardness and pH for as long as it's in the tank – test your parameters after adding it if you're running a sensitive setup.
