Stacking Stone

One 20 kg box of flat, stackable natural stone for caves, walls and terraces. Bioscape Stacking Stone is a natural rock in grey tones, packed by the box so you get enough flat, stable pieces to build a layered hardscape rather than buying single rocks and hoping they match – suited to aquascaped freshwater tanks, terrariums, paludariums and vivariums alike.

Key features
  • Flat, stackable format – naturally flat-faced stone that sits securely when stacked, for building caves, walls, terraces and ledges.
  • Sold by the 20 kg box – enough stone for a full hardscape build, rather than a single piece.
  • Grey tones throughout – colours vary within the grey range, piece to piece.
  • Each box is unique – a random mix of stone sizes; Bioscape doesn't publish a fixed piece count, so expect natural variation.
  • Multi-purpose – equally at home in a freshwater aquascape, a terrarium, a paludarium or a vivarium.

Bioscape doesn't publish a piece count or size range for the box – each one is packed as a mix of rock sizes, and the number and size of pieces varies box to box. We're not printing a figure we can't confirm.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for freshwater aquascapes, terrariums, paludariums and vivariums, including reptile and frog enclosures, wherever a flat, stackable stone is wanted for structure. Not verified as reef or marine safe, and we're not claiming it is – if you're stocking a marine tank, choose a rock sold specifically for marine use.

Preparation

Wash every piece thoroughly before use. Bioscape and independent retailers both note that thorough washing keeps the stone's effect on pH to a minimum – it hasn't been confirmed as fully inert, so it's worth checking your own tank's KH, GH and pH before and after adding a large stack if you're running a soft-water setup.

A dab of aquarium-safe silicone between stacked pieces turns a loose stack into a solid cave or ledge that holds up to digging fish and determined cichlids.

Goes well with
  • Aquarium-safe silicone – to bond stacked pieces into a permanent structure.
  • Fine, light-coloured gravel or sand – a contrasting substrate that shows the grey stone off.
  • Bioscape driftwood – to mix hard and soft hardscape elements in the same layout.
Warranty and delivery

Covered against being not as described under Australian Consumer Law. As a natural product, the exact mix of pieces you receive will vary box to box in size, shape and shade of grey – that's expected, not a fault. This is a 20 kg box; check your delivery address can take a parcel of that weight.

Common questions

How many pieces are in the box?

Bioscape doesn't publish a fixed count. Each 20 kg box is packed as a random mix of rock sizes, so the number of pieces varies box to box.

Will it affect my water's pH or hardness?

Washing it thoroughly before use keeps any effect to a minimum, according to Bioscape and retailer guidance. It isn't confirmed as fully inert, so bucket-test it first if you're running a soft-water tank.

Can I use it outside an aquarium?

Yes – it's also sold for terrariums, paludariums and vivariums, including reptile and frog enclosures.

Do I need anything else to stack it securely?

Careful stacking alone will hold for most layouts. For a cave that needs to survive digging fish or cichlids, a dab of aquarium-safe silicone between pieces makes it permanent.

Is it suitable for a marine tank?

We haven't been able to confirm it as marine safe, so we're not claiming it is. If you need rock for a marine or reef tank, choose one sold specifically for that use.
