This kit does not include hermit crabs, substrate or a heat source. Land hermit crabs need substrate deep enough to fully bury themselves to moult, and most Australian homes need supplementary heating to hold a stable warm end — see Goes well with below.

Is a heat mat included?
No. This kit ships with the terrarium, hideout, bowls, sponge and spray bottle only. Add an Eco Tech Hermit Crab Heat Mat to hold a stable warm end.
What substrate should I use?
Land hermit crabs need substrate deep enough to fully bury themselves to moult, which this kit does not include. Eco Tech Coco Peat Hermit Crab Bedding is sized for this enclosure.
How many hermit crabs can this enclosure hold?
It's sized as a starter enclosure for a small group. Hermit crabs are social and do best with company rather than alone, but avoid overcrowding — give every crab room to move, climb and bury without constantly competing for space.
Does the mesh lid keep humidity in?
It holds humidity better than a fully open top while still allowing airflow, but in dry climates you may need to mist more than once a day with the included spray bottle to hold the range land hermit crabs need.
