Fluval 104 204 Impeller Assembly (Curved Fans)
Fixes a noisy, weak or seized Fluval 104 or 204 without replacing the whole motor head.
This is the genuine Fluval curved-blade magnetic impeller, part A20110, for the 104 and 204 power filters. It's the spinning rotor that draws water through the canister — the single part most responsible for flow, and the first thing to check on a filter that's gone quiet, noisy or slow. This is the impeller only; it does not include the ceramic shaft it spins on.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20110 — the curved-blade magnetic impeller fitted to the 104 and 204, not a generic aftermarket fan.
- Curved-blade design — the 104/204 use a curved fan profile, different from the flat-blade impeller fitted to the 105/106/205/206 — fitting the wrong one costs flow.
- Restores flow after wear — magnets weaken and blade edges chip with age, both of which quietly reduce output long before the filter stops altogether.
- Direct fit, no tools — lifts off the ceramic shaft and the new one slides on in its place.

| 104 | Yes | Original power filter |
| 204 | Yes | Original power filter |

Fitting the flat-blade A20111 impeller to a 104 or 204, or this curved impeller to a 105 or 205, is a common mix-up between near-identical parts — check the blade shape on the old part against the table above before ordering.
What's included
- 1 x curved-blade magnetic impeller
Not included
- The ceramic shaft. The impeller spins on a separate ceramic shaft, sold individually.
- The impeller cover. The cover that retains the impeller in the motor head is a separate part.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for a 104 or 204 that's noisy, buzzing, running slow, or not spinning at all, and for a chipped or cracked impeller found during a service. Not suitable for the 105, 205, 106, 206, 107 or 207, which take different impellers, and it will not fix flow loss caused by a worn shaft — if the impeller wobbles or grinds on a shaft that looks fine, replace the shaft as well.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the impeller and its well at each service; a build-up of grit between the magnet and the housing is a common cause of a filter that runs noisy despite an undamaged impeller. Spin it by hand after refitting — it should turn freely with no scraping.
Goes well with
- 104/105/106 & 204/205/206 flat-blade impeller — the correct part if your filter turns out to be a 105 or 205, not a 104 or 204
- 204/205/206 impeller cover — check for cracks here if the impeller keeps lifting out of position
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. No separate manufacturer warranty term is quoted on moulded service parts. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
How do I know if my filter has a curved or flat impeller?
Take the old impeller out and look at the fan blades side-on. A curved profile means the 104 or 204 and this part. A flat profile means the 105/106/205/206 and part A20111 instead.
Does this include the shaft?
No. This is the impeller only. The ceramic shaft it rotates on is a separate part — replace both together if the shaft is worn or scored.
My filter is silent and not pumping at all — is it the impeller?
It's the most common cause, but check the magnet hasn't simply come free of the blades, and that the impeller well isn't jammed with debris, before assuming the part has failed.
Will a new impeller fix a filter that leaks?
No. The impeller affects flow, not sealing. A leak points to the motor head O-ring or the canister seal instead.
