Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Zeo-Carb
Zeolite and activated carbon in one insert, sized to drop straight into the C2's chemical stage. Zeo-Carb combines ammonia-absorbing zeolite with activated carbon for odour, discolouration and dissolved-organics removal, in a pre-measured pad that needs no scooping or bagging.
Key features
- Two media in one insert — zeolite for ammonia, activated carbon for odour, tannins and discolouration.
- Genuine Fluval part — catalogue number 14017, shaped for the C2's chemical media slot.
- Pre-measured — supplied as a 3-pack of ready-to-use inserts, no loose media to handle.

Will it fit my filter?
This insert is shaped for the C2's chemical media basket. The C3 uses part 14018 and the C4 uses part 14019 — a larger insert for a larger chamber, so check your filter model before ordering.

Dosage and directions
Drop one insert into the chemical stage of the media basket. Chemical media works by adsorption rather than mechanical trapping, so it exhausts well before it looks dirty — Fluval doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval for Zeo-Carb specifically, but as a general rule chemical media is spent long before mechanical foam pads need changing, so don't judge it by appearance.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Fluval C2 in freshwater. The activated carbon component also works in marine use for odour, discolouration and dissolved organics, but the zeolite's ammonia-binding action is only effective in freshwater — zeolite ion-exchange media does not remove ammonia in saltwater, where dissolved salts saturate its exchange sites. Not compatible with the C3 or C4.
Goes well with
- Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Foam Pad and Poly/Foam Pad — the mechanical stages that protect this media from clogging with debris
- Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Up To 115ltr — the unit this insert belongs in

Common questions
How is Zeo-Carb different from plain activated carbon?
It combines carbon with zeolite, which selectively binds ammonia — useful after a medication course, a heavy stocking event, or a water change where ammonia may spike, on top of carbon's usual job of clearing odour and discolouration.
How often should I replace it?
Fluval doesn't publish a fixed interval for this insert. Chemical media generally exhausts within weeks of active use rather than months, well before it looks dirty, so replace on a routine rather than waiting for a visual cue.
Can I use it alongside medication?
No — remove carbon-based media, including Zeo-Carb, before dosing most aquarium medications, as it will strip the active ingredient from the water. Reinstall it once the course is finished.
