Fluval C3 Hang On Filter Zeo-Carb

Carbon and ammonia remover, combined into one C3 cartridge.

Fluval's Zeo-Carb for the C3 Power Filter (part 14018, 140 g per pack, 3-pack) blends activated carbon with a zeolite-based ammonia remover in one chemical-stage cartridge. It's sized specifically for the C3; the C2 and C4 use their own Zeo-Carb packs, not this one.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval 14018 — sized for the C3's chemical stage, dropped straight into the media basket.
  • Two jobs, one cartridge — activated carbon polishes water clear and pulls out odours and discolouration, while the zeolite component grabs dissolved ammonia.
  • Frees up basket space — combining carbon and ammonia remover into one cartridge leaves room in the C3's chemical stage for other media if you want it.
  • 3-pack — a fresh cartridge for the next three services.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for freshwater tanks needing chemical polishing plus ammonia control — new setups, heavily stocked tanks, or after a medication course once the medication itself has run its course (carbon will pull medication out of the water, so remove it during dosing). Not suitable for marine or reef tanks: the carbon half still works, but the zeolite ammonia-remover half is not effective in saltwater. Other ions in the water compete for the same exchange sites the zeolite needs to grab ammonia, so it can't do that job once salt is added.

Care and maintenance

Chemical media saturates with use rather than clogging like a mechanical pad. Fluval's general guidance for carbon-based media is to replace it monthly, or as soon as it has done a specific job — clearing an odour, cloudy water, or pulling out medication after a treatment course.

Common questions

Can I use C3 Zeo-Carb in a saltwater tank?

The carbon component will still polish the water, but the ammonia-removing zeolite half won't work — saltwater's other ions block the exchange sites it needs. Fluval markets this cartridge for freshwater use.

How often do I need to replace it?

As a general rule for carbon-based media, monthly, or sooner if it's done a specific job like clearing medication from the water after a treatment course.

Does this replace the poly/foam pad too?

No. Zeo-Carb is the chemical stage only. The poly/foam pad (mechanical) and Bio-Screen pad (biological) are separate items in the C3's five-stage media bed.

Will this fit a Fluval C2 or C4?

No. Each C-Series filter takes its own Zeo-Carb pack sized to its media basket. This one, 14018, is for the C3 only.
