Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Carbon
Chemical filtration sized for the C4's carbon stage, not a universal fit. This is Fluval's genuine activated carbon cartridge for the C4 hang-on power filter's chemical stage, sold as three 140 g cartridges. Activated carbon adsorbs dissolved organics, odours, discolouration and many medications from aquarium water as it passes through the filter.

What's included

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for Fluval C4 filters running on freshwater or marine (fish-only) aquariums where odour and discolouration control is wanted.
- Not suitable for tanks currently under medication — carbon will strip most medications from the water, so remove it before dosing and only reinstall once the treatment course is finished. Not suitable for Fluval C2 or C3 filters.
Care and maintenance
Replace roughly every 2-4 weeks of continuous use — activated carbon has a finite adsorption capacity and stops removing organics once exhausted, even though it keeps water flowing through it. It does not need rinsing before use.

Covered by Fluval's standard parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel freight.
Common questions
Will this fit a Fluval C2 or C3?
No — the C2 and C3 use their own carbon cartridge sizing. This one is cut for the C4's chamber only.
Do I need to remove carbon before medicating my tank?
Yes. Activated carbon adsorbs most aquarium medications along with organics and discolouration, so remove it before dosing and reinstall once the treatment course finishes.
How long does one cartridge last?
Roughly 2-4 weeks under continuous use, depending on bioload and how much organic matter and discolouration it's adsorbing.
