Fluval EDGE Pre Filter Sponge

A fitted pre-filter sponge that stops fine debris, fry and small fish reaching the Fluval EDGE's filter intake. It slips directly over the intake before the main filter media, catching what would otherwise clog or bypass the foam and BioMax stages behind it.

Key features
  • Fits over the filter intake – installs without tools, ahead of the main filtration stages.
  • Protects fry and small fish – its open-cell foam stops small livestock being drawn into the impeller.
  • Traps fine debris early – reduces how quickly the foam and BioMax media behind it clog.
  • Purpose-fitted – sized specifically for the EDGE power filter, not a universal cut-to-fit sponge.

Position Over the filter intake, ahead of the main media
Will it fit my filter?

Made for the internal power filter built into the Fluval EDGE aquarium kit, in both the 6 US Gal (23 L) and 12 US Gal (46 L) sizes. It's not a universal sponge – it's shaped to seat over the EDGE's intake specifically.

Care and maintenance

Rinse in water taken from the tank during a water change rather than tap water, to avoid killing the bacteria that colonise it over time. Replace once it's compacted, torn, or won't rinse back to an open, springy texture.

Goes well with

Pair with the Fluval EDGE Foam & BioMax Renewal Kit – the pre-filter sponge protects that media from the debris load it would otherwise take directly.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against manufacturing defects in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery Australia-wide.

Common questions

Will this stop my fry getting into the filter?

Yes – that's its main job. The open-cell foam sits over the intake and blocks small fish and fry from being drawn in.

How often should I replace it?

Fluval doesn't publish a fixed interval – replace it once it's compacted, torn, or has lost its open texture even after rinsing.

Does this fit the original EDGE and the EDGE 2.0?

Yes, it fits both the 6 US Gal (23 L) and 12 US Gal (46 L) Fluval EDGE kits, which share the same internal filter.
