This foam block is cut specifically for the Fluval Flex 2.0, 57 L kit. Fluval's Flex 2.0 range uses a different, redesigned media stack from the original (non-2.0) Flex aquariums, so parts are not interchangeable between the two generations. If your tank is the Flex 2.0 34 L instead, you need Fluval's foam block sized for that model, not this one – check your tank's box or rating plate for "9 US Gal / 34 L" versus "15 US Gal / 57 L" if you're unsure which you own.

Is this the same foam as the original Fluval Flex?

No. The original Flex 15 Gal/57 L uses a separate part, Fluval A1375. Fluval does not list A1409 as compatible with that earlier range, so the two are not interchangeable.

Rinse the foam in tank water, never tap water, whenever it looks visibly clogged or flow slows noticeably – tap water's chlorine will kill the beneficial bacteria living in the rest of the filter. Fluval recommends a full replacement every 12 months, even with regular rinsing, once the foam has compacted and lost its ability to trap fine debris.

Suitable for any Fluval Flex 2.0 57 L aquarium kit, freshwater or saltwater. Not suitable for the Flex 2.0 34 L, the original (non-2.0) Fluval Flex range, or any other Fluval tank – those use different-sized parts.

Fluval recommends replacing it every 12 months. Rinse it in tank water between replacements if flow slows or it looks heavily soiled.

Can I rinse and reuse the foam instead of replacing it?

Yes, for routine cleaning – rinse in tank water, not tap water, to preserve the beneficial bacteria. Full replacement is still recommended annually once the foam has compacted.

Will this fit my Flex 34 L?

No. The 34 L kit uses a smaller foam block sized for its own filtration chamber, sold separately.
