Fluval FX Gravel Cleaner Kit
Vacuum the gravel without disconnecting your filter. The Fluval FX Gravel Cleaner Kit plugs straight into the utility valve on a Fluval FX4 or FX6 (second generation) canister filter, using the filter's own pump to pull debris out of the substrate during a water change. One hose run from the tank back through the filter replaces a separate vacuum and bucket.
Key features
- Connects to the FX utility valve – no extra pump, hose clamps or bucket needed at water-change time.
- Thumb-operated flow control – start and stop suction without lifting the vacuum head out of the water.
- Grooved vacuum head – sits in the gravel bed and lifts waste without pulling substrate through with it.
- Tube extension included – reaches deeper tanks and awkward corners without stretching.
- Gravel guard – reduces clogging from larger debris and plant matter mid-clean.
- Clips onto the FX lid – stores on the filter itself between water changes.
- Fresh and marine safe – the same kit works across freshwater and reef setups.
Will it fit my filter?
This kit is built for the Fluval FX4 and FX6, second generation, and connects directly to their utility valve. Fluval does not list it as compatible with the FX2 or the FX5 – if your canister is one of those two models, this kit will not connect to it.

- Gravel vacuum head with grooved base

- Thumb-operated flow control valve
Not included
Vacuum bags are not supplied with the kit. Fit either the Fluval FX Vacuum Bag Fine 2 Pack (A372) or the Fluval FX Vacuum Bag Super Fine 2 Pack (A373), depending on how fine the debris is that you're trying to catch.
Compatibility and spares
Genuine Fluval part A370. Replacement vacuum bags are A372 (fine) and A373 (super fine), both sold as 2 packs. The kit does not fit the FX2 or FX5 utility valve, and is not designed for other brands of canister filter.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the vacuum head and tube extension in clean water after each use to stop detritus drying inside them. Check the flow control valve moves freely before your next water change – a stiff valve is usually just mineral build-up and clears with a rinse in warm water.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for FX4 and FX6 (2nd gen) owners who want to gravel-vacuum through the filter instead of a separate hand siphon. Not suitable for FX2 or FX5 owners, or for any canister filter outside the Fluval FX range.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's standard warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel – no special freight handling required.
Goes well with
- Fluval FX Vacuum Bag Fine 2 Pack (A372) – general-purpose debris capture for routine cleans.
- Fluval FX Vacuum Bag Super Fine 2 Pack (A373) – for fine sand and light detritus a standard bag lets through.
Common questions
Will this work on my FX5?
No. Fluval builds this kit for the FX4 and FX6 (2nd generation) utility valve only – it is not listed as compatible with the FX5.
Do I need to buy a vacuum bag separately?
Yes. The kit ships with the vacuum head, tube extension and flow control valve, but not a bag – choose fine (A372) or super fine (A373) based on the debris in your tank.
Can I use this in a marine or reef tank?
Yes, the kit is rated for both freshwater and marine use.
Does it stop working while my filter keeps running?
The thumb-operated flow control lets you open and close suction on demand, so the filter keeps circulating the rest of the time you're not actively vacuuming.
Where does it store between cleans?
It clips onto the FX lid, so it stays with the filter rather than needing a separate spot in the cabinet.
