Genuine Fluval replacement foam for FX4, FX5 and FX6 canister filters. Fluval part A228, which Fluval sells as Bio-Foam, is a 3 pack of foam pads cut to fit the FX4, FX5 and FX6. It is mechanical media (it physically strains debris out of the water), and it also gives beneficial bacteria a surface to grow on.

Suitable as replacement foam for the FX4, FX5 and FX6. Fluval does not list it for the FX2 or other canister filters, so check the model name on your filter before ordering.
Care
Fluval's FX manual says to check and clean the foam monthly, rinsing it in aquarium water or dechlorinated tap water (tap water treated to remove chlorine), and never to use soap or detergent. The manual also schedules replacing half the mechanical foam at a time, which keeps some of the established bacteria in the filter.
