Fluval Pull Thru Hose Brush
A flexible 100 cm brush that pulls straight through filter hose and tubing to clear the algae and detritus that chokes flow. The Fluval Pull-Thru Hose Brush is a simple maintenance tool for anyone running canister, hang-on-back or sump filtration – the flexible bristle head is long enough to travel the full length of a typical hose run, scrubbing the inside wall clean in one pass rather than requiring the hose to be cut apart or replaced.
Key features
- 100 cm reach – long enough to clear most aquarium filter hose runs in a single pass, intake to spray bar.
- 2.5 cm brush head – sized to work inside standard aquarium filter hose and tubing without jamming.
- Flexible shaft – bends around elbows and fittings instead of stopping at the first corner.
- Reusable – rinses clean under a tap for repeated use across routine filter services.

Will it fit my filter hose?
Measure the internal diameter of the hose before ordering. This brush is sized for standard aquarium filter hose and tubing up to 1.6 cm (5/8 in) internal diameter – the size used on most canister filter intake and spray bar hoses. Wider-bore hose, such as some sump plumbing, will need a larger brush or a dedicated pipe cleaning kit.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for clearing algae, mulm and biofilm from the inside of canister filter hose, hang-on-back intake tubing and airline-adjacent fittings.
- Not a substitute for cleaning the filter media itself – this brush only reaches the hose and tubing, not the canister body.
- Not suitable for hose narrower than the brush head, or for rigid PVC pipe with tight internal bends.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the bristle head under running water immediately after use to stop trapped mulm drying onto the bristles. Store dry. Run it through the hose every time the filter is serviced, not only when flow visibly drops – algae builds up on the hose wall well before it is obvious at the outlet.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's standard replacement warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships standard parcel post from Nick's Aquarium Oceanarium Terrarium.
Common questions
Will this clear a canister filter's spray bar as well as the intake hose?
Yes, provided the spray bar's internal diameter is within the brush's 1.6 cm working range – most Fluval and third-party spray bars are. Remove the end cap before pulling the brush through.
Can I use it on airline tubing?
No. Airline tubing is far narrower than 1.6 cm and this brush will jam rather than clean it.
How often should I clean my filter hose?
Every time you service the filter – typically every 4 to 6 weeks – rather than waiting for a visible drop in flow.
