Fluval Quick Clear 120ml
One 120 mL bottle clears up to 1,816 L of cloudy freshwater in hours, for under a cent a litre. Fluval Quick Clear is a fast-acting water clarifier for freshwater aquariums. It works by drawing together the suspended organic and inorganic particles, dirt, silt and fine sand that cause cloudy water into clumps large enough for the filter to trap – clearing the haze without a water change.
Key features
- Fast-acting – clumps fine suspended particles so the filter can remove them, typically clearing visible haze within hours.
- Treats up to 1,816 L per bottle – at the standard dose, works out to under 1c per litre of water treated.
- Simple dosing – 2.5 mL per 38 L (10 US gal), measured against your tank's actual water volume.
- No water change required – clarifies through the existing filter rather than requiring dilution.

Dosage and directions
Dose 2.5 mL per 38 L (10 US gal) of aquarium water directly into an area of high flow, such as near the filter outlet, so it disperses evenly. Do not exceed the stated dose. A short increase in cloudiness in the first few hours is not unusual as particles clump before the filter removes them.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for freshwater aquariums experiencing cloudy water from suspended dirt, silt, fine substrate dust or organic debris.
- Not suitable for saltwater or reef aquariums – this formula is sold for freshwater use only.
- Not a treatment for green (algal) water, bacterial bloom, or ammonia – those need a different product and, usually, a look at the underlying cause.
Safety
Fluval states Quick Clear is safe for aquarium inhabitants when dosed as directed. As with any water treatment, avoid exceeding the stated dose, and space it out from other water conditioners rather than dosing everything at once.
Goes well with
- A Fluval water conditioner, for ongoing chlorine and chloramine treatment alongside occasional clarifying.
- Fluval Quick Clear Polishing Pads, to keep clumped particles from working back into the water column once your filter has caught them.
- A gravel vacuum, to address the fine substrate dust that is often the underlying cause of cloudy water.
Warranty and delivery

Common questions
Is Fluval Quick Clear safe for shrimp and other invertebrates?
Fluval markets Quick Clear as safe for aquarium inhabitants generally, but the manufacturer does not publish invertebrate-specific data. If stocking sensitive invertebrates, dose at the low end of the range and monitor before repeating.
How long does it take to work?
Most cloudy-water cases visibly clear within a few hours as the filter catches the clumped particles; persistent haze may need a repeat dose the next day.
Can I use it in a planted tank?
Fluval does not list plant-specific restrictions, but as with any clarifier, dose to the tank's actual water volume rather than the display volume if the tank is heavily planted or hardscaped.
Does it work on green water caused by algae?
No – Quick Clear targets suspended particulate matter, not free-floating algae. Green water needs a UV steriliser or an algaecide formulated for that purpose.
