Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the SP6, which Fluval says can run submerged in a sump or outside the water plumbed inline, on freshwater or saltwater tanks. Not for the SP2 (A20316) or SP4 (A20318). Fluval recommends replacing the bushing (the sleeve the shaft turns in) whenever the impeller is replaced.
Care
Fluval advises checking pump performance weekly and cleaning the impeller, impeller well and impeller cover if flow drops, and cleaning the whole pump at least once a year.
Safety
Fluval says to unplug everything in the aquarium before handling equipment in the water, and to unplug the pump if the RCD (residual current device, the safety switch that cuts power when it detects a leak to earth) trips. Handle the shaft with care: Fluval warns that dropping it or pressing too hard can cause hairline fractures that make it snap in use.
