Mice Jumbo
The largest mouse grade we stock, sized for big adult pythons, boas and monitors. This is a frozen Jumbo mouse, approximately 30 g and up — a whole-prey feeder for large, established reptiles that have outgrown Adult-sized mice. Frozen fresh and never previously thawed, it's sold individually and needs full thawing before feeding.

Which size do I need?
Mouse feeders are graded by weight, not just name. As a general guide, choose a mouse close to the width of the thickest part of your snake's body — if you're unsure, size down rather than up to avoid a difficult feed or regurgitation. If your reptile is regularly taking Jumbo mice easily, it may be time to consider a small rat instead — talk to our team if you're not sure.
| Size grade | Typical weight | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Pinkie | 1.5–3 g | Hatchling to small juvenile snakes, small lizards |
| Fuzzy | 3–7 g | Juvenile snakes stepping up from pinkies |
| Hopper | 7–13 g | Sub-adult snakes and larger juvenile monitors |
| Adult | 18–30 g | Adult colubrids, smaller pythons and boas, monitors |
| Jumbo | 30 g and up | Larger adult pythons, boas and monitors |
This listing is the Jumbo grade. We also stock Pinkie, Fuzzy, Hopper and Adult mice separately.
Thawing and storage
Keep frozen at -18°C or below until you're ready to feed. Thaw fully before offering — either in the fridge overnight, or sealed in a bag and submerged in cool water until soft all the way through, including the body cavity. A Jumbo mouse takes noticeably longer to thaw all the way through than smaller grades, so plan ahead. Never microwave or use hot water, and never feed a mouse that's still cold or partly frozen in the middle.
Warm to roughly room temperature before offering for the best feeding response. Never refreeze a mouse once it has thawed — if your reptile doesn't take it, discard it.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: larger adult pythons, boas and monitors, and other sizeable carnivorous reptiles that comfortably take an Adult mouse and are ready for more.
Not suitable for: anything smaller than a large adult snake or monitor — a Jumbo mouse is a genuinely large meal and the wrong choice for a reptile still growing into Adult-sized prey.
Common questions
How long does a Jumbo mouse take to thaw?
Longer than smaller grades — plan for several hours in the fridge, or check carefully if using the cool-water method, since the centre of a larger mouse takes longer to lose the cold than a pinkie or fuzzy does.
My snake struggled to swallow a Jumbo mouse — what does that mean?
It's usually a sign the mouse was too large for that individual snake. Step back down to an Adult mouse for a few feeds and reassess — every snake's comfortable prey size varies a little even within the same species and length.
Can I refreeze a mouse if my reptile doesn't eat it?
No — once thawed, a mouse must be fed or discarded. Refreezing thawed prey is a food-safety risk.
Is whole prey better than processed reptile food?
For obligate carnivores, whole prey provides a complete, balanced diet — bones for calcium, organs for micronutrients, and fur for roughage — that's difficult to replicate in a processed food.
