Ocean Nutrition frozen mysis
Whole mysis shrimp, the single most popular frozen staple for a reason.
Ocean Nutrition Frozen Mysis is a single-ingredient frozen food made from whole mysis shrimp around 1 cm long, flash-frozen to preserve texture and nutrient content. Sold frozen in a 100 g blister pack, it suits both freshwater and marine carnivorous fish, and its soft texture makes it a reliable option for fussy eaters.
Key features
- One ingredient — whole mysis shrimp, nothing added.
- Soft texture — often accepted by fish that refuse harder foods.
- Natural buoyancy — mysis tend to hang in the water column rather than sink straight to the substrate, giving mid-water feeders more time to take it.
- Flash-frozen — preserves texture and nutrient content from the point of freezing.
- Sized for a wide range of fish — around 1 cm per shrimp suits small to mid-sized carnivores.

Suitable for — and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine carnivorous fish, from smaller community carnivores through to mid-sized predators — seahorses, mandarins, gobies, wrasses and larger community fish commonly take mysis.
Not suitable as a sole diet for strict herbivores or grazing species.
Feeding directions
Feed 2 to 5 times a day, offering only what will be eaten within 5 minutes.
Thawing, storage and cold chain
Thaw a portion in a small container of aquarium water, then feed once fully thawed. Never refreeze thawed food. Keep the unopened pack frozen between uses, and carry it home in an insulated bag on a hot day so it doesn't begin thawing in transit.
Goes well with
Rotate with Marine Mix for dietary variety, and with Lance Fish for larger predatory tankmates that need whole-fish sized prey instead.
Warranty and delivery
As a frozen perishable food, this product is covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law relating to acceptable quality on arrival, in addition to any manufacturer assurance. It is sold and shipped frozen — keep it cold on the way home and into your freezer promptly.
Common questions
Is mysis suitable for seahorses and mandarins?
Yes — mysis shrimp is one of the most commonly recommended frozen foods for both, thanks to its size and soft texture.
Will it sink or float?
Mysis has natural buoyancy and tends to hang in the water column rather than sinking straight down, which suits mid-water feeders.
Can I feed this to freshwater fish?
Yes — the manufacturer lists it as suitable for both freshwater and marine carnivorous fish.
Do larger packs exist?
We stock the 100 g blister pack; the manufacturer also produces larger bulk packs, but those aren't what's listed on this page.
Does it need rinsing?
Thawing in a small amount of tank water and feeding straight after is enough for most tanks.
