Red Sea Reef Care Skeletal Elements Foundation ABC + 1kg

One powder, three elements, in the ratio corals actually consume them. Red Sea Skeletal Elements Foundation ABC+ blends calcium, carbonate alkalinity and magnesium — plus the potassium, boron, iodine and bromine of Coral Colours A and B — in the same proportions found in coral skeleton. Instead of dosing three or four separate liquids, one measured scoop of powder replaces the routine. This 1 kg tub suits nano to medium reefs with balanced, moderate demand.

Key features
  • One powder, several elements — calcium, alkalinity and magnesium in coral-consumption ratio, with trace potassium, boron, iodine and bromine included.
  • Simpler than dosing separately — one scoop replaces three or four bottles, provided your tank's uptake stays in proportion across elements.
  • Daily or weekly dosing — add directly to flow for daily dosing, or dissolve in a bucket first for a weekly top-up.
  • Under 1c per litre dosed — see Specifications for the full cost breakdown.
  • 1 kg tub — the trial-to-medium size; see the 5 kg tub for larger systems.

At the conservative end of the 1–2 g per 100 L dose range, a 1 kg tub covers roughly 50,000 L of cumulative dosing — a fraction of a cent per litre either way, though the 5 kg tub works out cheaper again per gram for anyone dosing daily on a larger system.

Dosage and directions

Dose daily or weekly depending on your system and coral load. For daily dosing, add the powder directly into an area of good flow. For weekly dosing, dissolve in a bucket of aquarium water first, then add gradually. Use 1–2 g per 100 L as a starting point, and test all three foundation elements weekly — if one drifts out of line with the others, correct it with the individual Foundation A, B or C liquid rather than increasing the ABC+ dose.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: reef aquariums with moderate, balanced calcium/alkalinity/magnesium demand — mixed reefs and systems without heavy, lopsided SPS growth.
  • Not suitable for: systems where one element consistently depletes faster than the others — dosing more ABC+ to correct it will overdose the other two. Use the individual Foundation A, B and C liquids instead.
Care and maintenance

Keep the tub sealed between uses — the powder is hygroscopic and will clump if it absorbs moisture from the air. Use the supplied scoop or a dry measuring spoon; a wet scoop introduces moisture into the remaining powder.

Safety

Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children and pets. Avoid inhaling the fine powder when measuring doses.

Common questions

How is ABC+ different from dosing Foundation A, B and C separately?

ABC+ blends all three in one fixed ratio, so one dose covers all three elements at once. The liquid 3-pack lets you dose and correct each element on its own, which matters if your tank consumes them unevenly.

How long will 1 kg last?

At the conservative end of the 1–2 g per 100 L range, a 1 kg tub covers roughly 50,000 L of cumulative dosing — several months on a typical home reef.

Should I dose daily or weekly?

Either works. Daily dosing keeps levels more stable; weekly dosing (pre-dissolved in a bucket) is simpler to fit into a routine. Test weekly regardless of dosing frequency.

What if my calcium keeps dropping faster than alkalinity and magnesium?

Don't increase the ABC+ dose to compensate — that will overdose alkalinity and magnesium. Correct calcium on its own with Foundation A liquid instead.

Is 1 kg or 5 kg better value?

Both work out to under 1c per litre dosed. Choose 5 kg only if you're confident you'll use it within its shelf life — the powder is hygroscopic and best used within a reasonable time of opening.
