One bottle replaces separate amino and energy dosing for corals. Red Sea Reef Energy Plus is an all-in-one liquid coral food supplying the carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins that soft corals, LPS and SPS use for growth, colouration and tissue repair. It's dosed daily against tank volume, at a rate set by how demanding the system is — a lightly stocked mixed reef needs far less than an SPS-dominant or ultra-low-nutrient (ULNS) tank running hungry.

Key features
  • All-in-one formula — carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins in one bottle, replacing separate two-part energy and amino dosing.
  • Feeds the whole coral, not just the polyp — supports tissue growth, colour development and post-stress recovery across soft coral, LPS and SPS.
  • Built for low-nutrient systems — the higher ULNS dose rate is aimed squarely at tanks where nutrient export has left corals hungry.
  • Four bottle sizes — 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L and 5 L, so dosing-pump users aren't stuck refilling a small bottle weekly.
  • Suits SPS, LPS and softies — one product across mixed and specialist reef displays.

Dosing and directions

Dose once daily, ideally in the evening when polyps extend to feed. Red Sea publishes three dose rates per 100 L of tank water, and the right one depends on how the system is stocked and fed:

System type Daily dose per 100 L
SPS frags / mixed reef 4 mL
SPS-dominant 8 mL
Ultra-low-nutrient system (ULNS) 12 mL

Turn the protein skimmer off 15–30 minutes before and after dosing so the feed has time to be taken up rather than pulled straight into the cup. If a dose is missed, resume the normal schedule rather than doubling up the next day. Refrigerate after opening and use within 12 months; dosing-pump users should decant no more than a week's supply into a non-refrigerated container at a time, washing it out between refills.

Ingredients

Red Sea describes Reef Energy Plus as an organic complex of dissolved and suspended carbohydrates, amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins, built on the same base as the original two-part Reef Energy A & B with additional components. Red Sea does not publish a full analytical ingredient breakdown for this product — where a complete declaration exists, we publish it verbatim; where it doesn't, we're saying so rather than guessing at a list.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: soft coral, LPS and SPS in marine reef systems, including non-photosynthetic coral displays.
  • Not suitable for: freshwater aquariums. It's a supplementary feed, not a substitute for target-feeding coarse particulate feeders such as large-polyp LPS, or for maintaining calcium, alkalinity and magnesium — those still need their own dosing and testing.
Care and maintenance

Watch the tank rather than the clock. A grey or brown biofilm building on rockwork, or a rise in nuisance algae, points to overdosing relative to how much nutrient export the system has. Coral bleaching that starts from the base of the colony and works upward, in an otherwise low-nutrient tank, points the other way. Either signal is a reason to adjust the daily rate up or down, not to abandon dosing altogether.

Warranty and delivery

Reef Energy Plus is a consumable and doesn't carry a manufacturer warranty term; it's covered by the consumer guarantees available under Australian Consumer Law regardless. As a liquid product it ships standard parcel, no special freight handling required.

Goes well with
  • Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro Multi Test Kit — daily feeding pushes coral growth, and growth is what consumes calcium, alkalinity and magnesium; testing the three together shows when dosing needs to follow.
  • A dosing pump, for anyone moving from occasional feeding to a genuine daily schedule — a bottle that lasts months is only convenient if the daily dose is automatic.
Common questions

Do I need to refrigerate Reef Energy Plus?

Yes, once opened. It's a biological formula and keeps for up to a year refrigerated after first use; unopened bottles can be stored at room temperature until opened.

Will it cause an algae outbreak?

Overdosing relative to your system's nutrient export can show up as a grey-brown biofilm or extra nuisance algae. Start at the rate for your system type and adjust from what you observe rather than assuming more is better.

Can I use it with a dosing pump?

Yes — decant about a week's supply into a non-refrigerated dosing container at a time and wash the container out between refills, since the product is more stable refrigerated in bulk than sitting at room temperature in a doser.

Is it reef safe for invertebrates?

Yes, it's formulated as a coral and reef feed. As with any feed addition, dose to the system's actual uptake rather than a fixed amount if you keep sensitive filter-feeding invertebrates alongside corals.

What's the difference between the three dose rates?

They reflect how much of a coral's nutrition is coming from the water column versus target feeding, and how aggressively the system exports nutrients. A lightly stocked mixed reef needs the lowest rate; an SPS-dominant tank or a tightly run ULNS system, where corals get little else to eat, needs progressively more.
