Red Sea ReefCan 40ltr
More top-up water, without more floor space. The Red Sea ReefCan 40 L is a slim, transparent reservoir for reverse-osmosis or pre-mixed top-off water, built to feed an auto top-off (ATO) system from a tight footprint beside a sump or cabinet. A rear port takes ATO tubing, a front port is for filling, and a built-in scale lets you check the level without opening the lid.
Key features
- Slim 17 cm footprint - fits beside a sump or behind a cabinet where a bucket won't go
- Transparent body with a built-in scale - check the water level at a glance, no lifting the lid
- Dual openings - a front port for filling, a rear port sized for ATO tubing and Red Sea's ReefATO+ siphon-breaker cap
- Holds RO or pre-mixed top-off water - works with most auto top-off systems, not only Red Sea's own

Will it fit my setup?
At just 17 cm wide, the ReefCan is sized to slot beside a sump or behind a cabinet on Red Sea's REEFER 170 and REEFER 200 ranges, and the newer G2/G2+ and MAX-series cabinets, where a standard bucket won't fit. It isn't limited to Red Sea tanks - any auto top-off system that draws from an open reservoir can use it, and its rear port is purpose-matched to Red Sea's own ReefATO+.
Which size do I need?
| ReefCan 18 L | ReefCan 40 L | |
|---|---|---|
| External dimensions (H x W x D) | 55 x 9 x 44 cm | 55 x 17 x 50 cm |
| Best for | Compact reef and nano systems, or tight cabinet space | Larger systems, or longer intervals between refills |
See the Red Sea ReefCan 18 L for the compact version.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for freshwater and marine systems that need an external RO or top-off water reserve
- Suitable for standalone use, or feeding most third-party ATO pumps
Not suitable as a substitute for a sealed salt-storage container - this is an open water reservoir, not an airtight container, so it isn't built to keep bulk dry salt free of humidity.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's standard hardware warranty, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ships on standard parcel freight - the reservoir is bulky for its weight, so allow for a larger box than the price alone might suggest.
Common questions
Does this come with an ATO pump?
No - the ReefCan is a reservoir only. Pair it with your existing ATO pump or with Red Sea's own ATO range.
Can I use it to mix new saltwater instead of top-off water?
Yes, many aquarists also use it to pre-mix saltwater ahead of a water change. Just don't rely on it as an airtight container for storing dry salt long-term.
Will it fit under a standard cabinet?
At 55 cm tall it's designed to stand beside a cabinet rather than sit inside a typical stand's shelf - check your available height before ordering.
What's the difference between the 18 L and 40 L?
Footprint and capacity. The 40 L is 8 cm wider and 6 cm deeper than the 18 L, holding more than double the water for less frequent refills.
