Red Sea Reefer DC Skimmer 300 (W/O Controller)
Strip dissolved organics out before they ever become nitrate. The Red Sea REEFER DC Skimmer 300 is the entry point in Red Sea's three-size DC skimmer range, built around a Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump for a fine, adjustable air-water mix in a compact 53 cm body. It is sold without a controller – the skimmer has no on/off switch or speed dial of its own and needs Red Sea's ReefRun Dual Controller, bought separately, to run at all.
Key features
- Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump – a DC pump built for a fine, controllable bubble mix rather than a fixed-speed air stone approach.
- Rated across the full bioload range – from 900 L on a lightly stocked fish-only system down to 300 L on a heavily stocked SPS reef.
- Compact 53 cm body – sized to fit smaller sump chambers where a large in-sump skimmer won't.
- 20 W draw moving up to 1000 L/h of water and 500 L/h of air through the reaction chamber.
- Recommends 16–20 cm of water depth in the sump chamber for the skimmer to sit and skim correctly.
Rated volume by bioload
Red Sea rates its DC skimmer range at three stocking levels rather than one headline number, because a heavily stocked reef needs far more skimming capacity per litre than a lightly stocked fish-only tank.
| Stocking type | DC Skimmer 300 | DC Skimmer 600 | DC Skimmer 900 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fish only (light bioload) | 900 L | 1800 L | 2700 L |
| Mixed reef (medium bioload) | 600 L | 1200 L | 1800 L |
| SPS-dominant reef (heavy bioload) | 300 L | 600 L | 900 L |

What's included
- REEFER DC Skimmer 300 body with the Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump fitted
- Collection cup
Not included
- ReefRun Dual Controller – this skimmer will not power on without it. Budget for the controller as part of this purchase, not as an optional extra.
- Sump plumbing, drain fittings or mounting brackets beyond the skimmer's own body
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for saltwater reef and marine fish-only systems within the rated bioload range above, run in a sump with 16–20 cm of usable water depth. Not suitable for freshwater systems – foam fractionation only works in saltwater. Not a fit if you don't already own, or aren't budgeting for, a ReefRun Dual Controller, since the skimmer has no standalone operation.
Goes well with
The Red Sea ReefRun Dual Controller is not an accessory here – it's the part that makes this skimmer run, so treat it as part of the purchase rather than an add-on.
Warranty and delivery
Red Sea backs this skimmer with a manufacturer's warranty in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ask our team to confirm the current documented warranty term for this model at the time of purchase.
Common questions
Can I run the REEFER DC Skimmer 300 without a controller?
No. It's supplied without one and has no built-in on/off or speed control – Red Sea's ReefRun Dual Controller, sold separately, is required for it to operate.
What size tank is the REEFER DC Skimmer 300 rated for?
Red Sea rates it at 900 L for a lightly stocked fish-only tank, 600 L for a mixed reef, and 300 L for a heavily stocked SPS-dominant reef – the busier the bioload, the smaller the tank it's built to service.
What pump does it use?
A Sicce PSK DC-1200 DC pump, drawing 20 W and moving up to 1000 L/h of water and 500 L/h of air through the skimmer body.
How much water depth does my sump need?
Red Sea recommends 16–20 cm of usable water depth in the skimmer chamber for it to sit and skim correctly.
What if I outgrow the 300 later?
Check body height before upsizing – the 300 stands 53 cm, the 600 stands 56 cm and the 900 stands 59 cm – and confirm your sump has the internal clearance before stepping up.
