Red Sea Reefer DC Skimmer 900 (W/O Controller)

Match your skimmer to a heavily stocked, large-volume reef. The Red Sea REEFER DC Skimmer 900 is the largest of Red Sea's three-size DC skimmer range, running a Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump in a 59 cm body for big systems or busy SPS reefs that need real skimming capacity. As with the 300 and 600, it's sold without a controller – there's no on/off switch or speed dial on the skimmer itself, and Red Sea's ReefRun Dual Controller, bought separately, is required to run it.

Key features
  • Sicce PSK DC-1200 pump – the same DC platform used across the REEFER skimmer range, tuned for the largest body in the line.
  • Rated across the full bioload range – from 2700 L on a lightly stocked fish-only system down to 900 L on a heavily stocked SPS reef.
  • 59 cm body – the tallest in the range, built for the largest reaction chamber volume.
  • 30 W draw moving up to 2000 L/h of water and 900 L/h of air through the reaction chamber.
  • Recommends 20–24 cm of water depth in the sump chamber for correct performance.
Rated volume by bioload

Red Sea rates the DC skimmer range at three stocking levels, because a heavily stocked SPS reef needs far more skimming per litre than a lightly stocked fish-only tank on the same body.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for saltwater reef and marine fish-only systems within the rated bioload range above, run in a sump with 20–24 cm of usable water depth – check this against your sump before buying, since it's the tallest body in the range. Not suitable for freshwater systems – foam fractionation only works in saltwater. Not a fit if you don't already own, or aren't budgeting for, a ReefRun Dual Controller, since the skimmer has no standalone operation.

Goes well with

The Red Sea ReefRun Dual Controller is the part that makes this skimmer run, so treat it as part of the purchase rather than an accessory.

Warranty and delivery

Red Sea backs this skimmer with a manufacturer's warranty in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ask our team to confirm the current documented warranty term for this model at the time of purchase.

Common questions

Can I run the REEFER DC Skimmer 900 without a controller?

No. It's supplied without one and has no built-in on/off or speed control – Red Sea's ReefRun Dual Controller, sold separately, is required for it to operate.

What size tank is the REEFER DC Skimmer 900 rated for?

Red Sea rates it at 2700 L for a lightly stocked fish-only tank, 1800 L for a mixed reef, and 900 L for a heavily stocked SPS-dominant reef.

Will the 900 fit my sump?

Check clearance carefully – at 59 cm tall it's the tallest skimmer in the range and needs 20–24 cm of water depth in the chamber on top of that height, so measure before ordering.

What pump does it use?

A Sicce PSK DC-1200 DC pump, drawing 30 W and moving up to 2000 L/h of water and 900 L/h of air through the skimmer body.

Is the 900 overkill for a moderately stocked tank?

Not necessarily – a lightly stocked fish-only system up to 2700 L can run it comfortably. It only becomes the wrong choice if your tank is small enough that the 300 or 600 already covers your bioload.
