Seachem Reef Plus
Feeds coral colour, polyp extension and filter feeders in one dose. Reef Plus is a comprehensive reef supplement from Seachem, combining trace elements, B-complex vitamins and amino acids in a single nitrate- and phosphate-free formula. It is designed to top up the trace nutrition that skimming, carbon and water changes strip out of a reef system, supporting healthy coral growth and colouration alongside filter-feeding invertebrates.
Available in five sizes from a 100ml trial bottle through to a 5ltr bulk pack, Reef Plus suits everything from a first nano reef to a large display system on a regular dosing routine.
Key features
- Broad trace element blend, including boron, iodine, iron, copper, zinc, manganese, bromide, cobalt, molybdenum, vanadium, nickel, tin and rubidium
- B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B12), vitamin C, choline and inositol to support coral and invertebrate health
- Amino acids (arginine, glutamate, lysine and tyrosine) to support tissue growth and colouration
- Nitrate- and phosphate-free formula, so it does not directly fuel nuisance algae
- Doubles as a food soak, mixed into food to boost the nutritional value of feeds

Which size do I need?
Reef Plus is dosed in very small amounts relative to tank volume, so every size in the range works out to a fraction of a cent per litre of water treated over the life of the bottle. The table below shows how many litres of system water each size doses out, based on the standard rate of 5ml per 80L twice weekly.
| Size | Price | Litres treated | Cost per litre |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100ml | $12.95 | 1,600L | under 1c per litre |
| 250ml | $14.80 | 4,000L | under 1c per litre |
| 500ml | $29.95 | 8,000L | under 1c per litre |
| 1ltr | $75.95 | 16,000L | under 1c per litre |
| 5ltr | $276.00 | 80,000L | under 1c per litre |
Because all five sizes land under one cent per litre, cost per millilitre is the more useful comparison for value: the 5ltr pack is the most economical per ml, followed by the 250ml and 500ml sizes, with the 1ltr and 100ml sizes costing more per ml. As a rough guide, the 100ml bottle suits a nano reef or a trial run, 250ml and 500ml cover most home reef tanks, and the 1ltr and 5ltr sizes suit larger systems or a household running more than one reef tank.
Suitable for / not suitable for
Suitable for established marine reef aquariums housing corals (soft, LPS and SPS), clams and other filter-feeding invertebrates that benefit from supplemental trace nutrition. Not a substitute for regular water changes, core calcium and alkalinity dosing, or for freshwater aquariums, which do not need a marine trace/vitamin supplement. Best used alongside a basic reef test kit so dosing can be adjusted to what the tank actually needs.
Dosage and directions
Use 1 capful (5ml) for each 80L (20 US gallons) of system water, twice a week, or as required to maintain coral growth and colour. Reef Plus can also be used as a food soak by mixing around 1ml into roughly 15ml (about a tablespoon) of food before feeding.
Turn off ozone generators while dosing, as the vitamins and amino acids in Reef Plus are reducing agents that ozone will break down. A protein skimmer will remove some of the dosed organics, which is already factored into the standard twice-weekly rate. Refrigerate after opening to maintain potency.
Goes well with
Reef Plus covers trace elements, vitamins and amino acids rather than bulk reef chemistry, so it pairs well with a two-part calcium and alkalinity dosing system for core parameters, and with a basic reef test kit (iodine, calcium, alkalinity) to confirm dosing is on track rather than guessing.

Common questions
Which Reef Plus size is the best value?
Per millilitre, the 5ltr pack is the cheapest, followed by 250ml and 500ml. The 1ltr and 100ml sizes cost more per ml but suit lower dosing volumes or trying the product before committing to a larger size.
Can I dose Reef Plus and a two-part alkalinity/calcium supplement on the same day?
Seachem has not published a restriction against it, but as general good practice with any reef additive, many reefkeepers stagger different supplements across the week rather than dosing everything at once, making it easier to track how the tank responds to each one.
Will it affect skimmer performance?
A protein skimmer will remove some of the dosed vitamins and amino acids, but Seachem's standard twice-weekly dose rate already accounts for this, so no dosing adjustment is needed for a tank running a skimmer.
Is Reef Plus suitable for clams and other invertebrates?
Yes, Reef Plus is formulated as a general reef supplement to support corals and filter-feeding invertebrates such as clams, dosed according to label directions and adjusted to the tank's response.
How long does an opened bottle last?
Refrigerate Reef Plus after opening; stored this way it maintains quality for roughly 6 to 12 months.
Can I use Reef Plus in a freshwater aquarium?
No, Reef Plus is formulated for marine and reef systems only.
