Zoo Med Original Banquet Feeding Block
A slow-dissolving feeding block that keeps bottom feeders and grazers fed while you're away. Zoo Med's Original Banquet Feeding Block sits on the tank floor and dissolves gradually, giving problem feeders such as plecos, algae eaters, redtail sharks, gouramis, tangs, angels and damsels something to graze on over a weekend away or a longer trip.
Key features
- Slow dissolve – releases food gradually rather than clouding the tank in one go.
- Sized to the trip – Mini covers a short weekend, Regular covers about a week, Giant covers up to two weeks.
- Feeds bottom dwellers directly – sits on the substrate where plecos, algae eaters and other grazers can reach it, rather than floating out of range.
- One Regular block feeds roughly 15–20 medium fish, per Zoo Med – add a second block for larger or more heavily stocked tanks.
Specifications
| Size | SKU | Weight per block | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini (6 pack) | ZM550 | 8.5 g (0.3 oz) | 3–4 days per block |
| Regular (1 block) | ZM560 | 12.8 g (0.45 oz) | 7–8 days |
| Giant (1 block) | ZM570 | 39.7 g (1.4 oz) | 10–14 days |
Which size do I need?
Match the block to the trip, not the tank size: Mini for an overnight or weekend away (the 6 pack means you're covered for repeat trips), Regular for around a week, Giant for up to a fortnight. For a heavily stocked tank, or a tank with several problem feeders competing for the block, use more than one block rather than jumping straight to Giant.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and saltwater community tanks with bottom feeders, grazers or fry that need constant access to food. Not suitable for bowls or tanks without aeration or filtration – Zoo Med states this directly, since a dissolving block in still, unfiltered water can foul it.

Safety
This block contains Copper Sulphate as a trace mineral supplement. Copper is toxic to shrimp, snails and other invertebrates at aquarium concentrations – don't use it in a tank that houses invertebrates.
Warranty and delivery
Standard shelf-stable food item – store in a cool, dry place. Contact us if a block arrives damaged.
Common questions
Will this cloud my water?
It's designed to dissolve slowly rather than break apart, but Zoo Med specifically warns against using it in tanks without aeration or filtration, where a dissolving block is more likely to affect water quality.
Is it reef or invertebrate safe?
No – it contains Copper Sulphate, which is unsafe for shrimp, snails and other invertebrates.
How many fish will one block feed?
Zoo Med rates one Regular block as suitable for roughly 15–20 medium-sized aquarium fish.
Can I use it for a two-week holiday?
The Giant block is rated for 10–14 days, so it covers up to a fortnight; for anything longer, plan on a second block or a proper auto-feeder.
