Zoo Med Reptisafe Water Conditioner
Makes tap water safe for reptiles and amphibians in seconds, not days. Zoo Med ReptiSafe Water Conditioner is an instant dechlorinator formulated for reptile and amphibian water — drinking bowls, misting and drip systems, and aquatic turtle tanks — rather than for fish aquariums.
Key features
- Removes chlorine and neutralises chloramines instantly — no need to let tap water stand before use.
- Detoxifies heavy metals — Zoo Med states it binds copper, lead, mercury and cadmium that can be present in tap water.
- Adds electrolytes — replaces ions lost from plain dechlorinated water, closer to what reptiles and amphibians encounter naturally.
- Supports amphibian slime coat — Zoo Med states it helps stimulate the natural slime coat that protects frogs and newts.
- Treats water for a few cents a litre at the everyday dosing rate — see the size comparison below.

Dosage and directions
For drinking bowls: add 2 drops per 8 fl oz (≈250 mL) cup of tap water each time you refresh it. For aquatic turtle tanks, misting reservoirs and other larger volumes: add 1 teaspoon (5 mL) per 5 US gallons (≈18.9 L) of tap water whenever you add or change water.
Which size do I need?
The 4.25 oz bottle works out cheaper per litre treated (≈3c/L) than the 2.25 oz (≈4c/L), so it's the better buy if you're conditioning water regularly for a turtle tank or multi-reptile setup. The 2.25 oz size suits a single drinking-bowl routine or as a spare on hand.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for reptile and amphibian drinking water, misting and drip systems, and aquatic turtle tanks. Zoo Med markets this specifically for reptile and amphibian water rather than as a general fish-tank conditioner — if you're treating a display fish aquarium, use a conditioner formulated and dosed for that purpose.
Ingredients
Zoo Med lists the active components as: water, dechloraminating agent, synthetic organic polymers (colloids), chelating agent, and electrolytes.
Safety
For animal drinking and soaking water only — follow the stated dose and do not exceed it. Keep out of reach of children.
Warranty and delivery
Sold as a consumable supplement; no warranty applies. Standard shipping.
Common questions
Can I use this in a fish aquarium?
It's formulated and dosed for reptile and amphibian water rather than for community fish tanks — for aquariums, use a conditioner designed and dosed for that purpose.
Do I need to wait after dosing before using the water?
No — Zoo Med markets ReptiSafe as an instant conditioner, so treated water is ready to use straight away.
Why does it contain electrolytes as well as a dechlorinator?
Plain dechlorinated tap water lacks the trace ions found in natural water sources. The added electrolytes are intended to bring treated water closer to what reptiles and amphibians would encounter naturally.
Which size treats water more cheaply?
The 4.25 oz bottle, at roughly 3c per litre treated versus roughly 4c per litre for the 2.25 oz bottle, at the everyday dosing rate.
