Zoo Med ReptiTemp Infrared Thermometer

Point, click, and know your basking spot's real temperature. The ReptiTemp Digital Infrared Thermometer reads surface temperature the instant you point it — no probe to place, no wire to run across the enclosure. Use it to check the exact basking-spot temperature under a lamp, confirm the cool end of the gradient, or spot-check substrate, glass and incubation containers, all without touching the surface.

Key features
  • Instant non-contact reading — point and click for a surface temperature in under a second.
  • Wide range — reads from -33°C to 110°C (-28°F to 230°F), covering everything from a chilled hibernation box to a hot basking rock.
  • Min/Max function — capture the highest and lowest readings from a sweep across the enclosure.
  • °C/°F switchable — set it to whichever scale you work in.
  • Pocket-sized — small enough to keep on the reptile room shelf and grab for every bulb or gradient check.
Specifications
Spec Detail
Model RT-1
Reading type Non-contact infrared, surface temperature only
Temperature range -33°C to 110°C (-28°F to 230°F)
Display °C/°F switchable, Min/Max function
Power 1 x CR2032 lithium battery (included)
Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for checking basking-spot surface temperature, cool-zone surface temperature, substrate, glass, and incubation or hibernation container surfaces.
  • Not a substitute for a permanent ambient thermometer or a thermostat probe — it takes an instant spot reading rather than a continuous one, and it reads surface temperature, not air temperature.
Care and maintenance

Replace the CR2032 battery when the display dims or drops out; no other maintenance is needed. Keep the lens clean and dry for an accurate reading.

Common questions

Does this read air temperature or surface temperature?

Surface temperature only. For accurate ambient air readings, use a dedicated ambient thermometer or your thermostat's probe alongside this tool.

Can I use it to check my heat lamp's basking spot?

Yes — this is exactly what it's designed for. Point it at the basking surface your reptile actually lies on, not at the bulb itself.

What battery does it use, and is one included?

One CR2032 lithium button-cell battery, included in the box.

Can I use it for incubation checks?

Yes, for spot-checking the surface of an incubation container. For the incubation medium itself, pair it with a proper substrate probe — infrared only reads the outer surface it's pointed at.
