Zoo Med Tillandsia
A realistic air plant that never needs a drop of water. The Zoo Med Tillandsia is an artificial terrarium plant styled on the epiphytic air plants found in rainforest habitats, giving a naturalistic terrarium or paludarium a splash of green without any watering, misting or plant lighting to manage.
The leaves are moulded in a water-resistant material and the whole plant sits on a sturdy root-style stake, so it pushes straight into substrate, cork bark or a background and stays put even when a curious reptile or amphibian climbs on it.
Key features
- Water-resistant leaves – wipe clean, no colour fade from misting or splashback.
- Sturdy root stake – anchors straight into substrate, bark or backgrounds.
- Zero maintenance – no watering, misting, fertilising or plant lighting required.
- Built to be climbed on – designed to hold its shape and position under normal pet interaction.
- Doubles as shelter – gives shy reptiles and amphibians a place to duck out of sight.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Naturalistic terrariums, paludariums and vivariums wanting rainforest-style greenery without live plant care
- Enclosures housing species that uproot, dig around or eat live plants, where a live Tillandsia wouldn't survive anyway
- Not a substitute for live planting where a bioactive clean-up crew relies on living plants for cover and humidity cycling
- Not edible – it's decor, not a food or supplement item
Care and maintenance
Rinse or wipe with plain water to remove dust, algae film or substrate build-up. Avoid harsh detergents – plain water is enough, and the leaves are water-resistant rather than waterproof-coated, so there's no finish to strip off.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law. As a small decor accessory it ships standard with the rest of your order – no special freight handling applies.
Common questions
Will my reptile try to eat it?
Some reptiles investigate new decor by mouth. The leaves are a solid synthetic material rather than a foam or foil that could shed pieces, but as with any new decor, keep an eye on the enclosure for the first few days.
Does it need any light or humidity to stay looking good?
No. Because it's artificial, it doesn't respond to UVB, basking heat or humidity levels the way a live Tillandsia would – it looks the same in a dry enclosure as in a humid rainforest setup.
Can I use it in a paludarium with a water feature?
Yes. The leaves are water-resistant, so splash zones near waterfalls or misting systems won't damage them.
How do I mount it?
Push the root stake into substrate, a cork bark round or a foam background. It doesn't need glue, though aquarium-safe silicone can help on a vertical background if extra hold is needed.
