Zoo Med Wire Cage Clamp Lamp

A wire-guarded clamp fixture that keeps a hot basking bulb off the mesh lid and off your hand. The Zoo Med Wire Cage Clamp Lamp (LF-10) is a heavy-gauge aluminium dome fixture with a heat-resistant ceramic socket, built to clamp onto the mesh lid of a terrarium and hold a heat or UVB bulb at an adjustable angle. The wire cage around the dome is the point of difference — it stops the hot dome resting directly on a plastic mesh lid or against skin.

Key features
  • Wire cage guard — surrounds the dome so the hot metal housing can't rest directly on a mesh lid or make accidental contact with a hand during a bulb change.
  • Rated up to 150 W — enough headroom for most incandescent basking bulbs, halogen basking bulbs and ceramic heat emitters sold for terrarium use.
  • Heat-resistant ceramic socket — rated for sustained use with high-wattage bulbs, including mercury vapour UV bulbs, without the socket itself degrading.
  • Clamp mount with adjustable angle — clamps onto a mesh terrarium lid, so the bulb can be angled onto a specific basking spot rather than fixed straight down.
  • Heavy-gauge painted aluminium construction — built for continuous duty over a heated terrarium rather than occasional household use.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to mounting a single heat or UVB bulb up to 150 W above a mesh-topped terrarium, where the wire guard's protection against accidental contact and against resting on the lid itself is wanted.

Not suitable for bulbs rated above 150 W, for use without a mesh or otherwise heat-safe lid beneath it, or as a fully enclosed fixture — the open wire design means the bulb itself is still exposed and hot to the touch during and after use.

What's included / not included

The fixture, ceramic socket and wire cage guard with clamp mount are included. The heat, basking or UVB bulb is not included and is sold separately.

Safety

This is a mains-powered fixture intended for use with high-wattage heat and UV bulbs — check the bulb's wattage never exceeds the fixture's 150 W rating. Position it so the wire guard, not the dome itself, is the closest point of contact for anything in the enclosure, and allow the fixture to cool before touching the dome or changing a bulb. Zoo Med lists this fixture as U.L. approved when used with its own Ceramic Heat Emitter.

Care and maintenance

Dust and clean the wire guard periodically so airflow around the bulb isn't restricted, which can shorten bulb life and raise dome temperature further. Check the clamp screw periodically for a secure grip, since a loose clamp can let the fixture tilt or drop onto the lid.

Goes well with

Pairs with Zoo Med's basking bulbs, Ceramic Heat Emitters and UVB bulbs up to 150 W, and with a Zoo Med Wire Cage Clamp Lamp mesh lid setup generally — it does not include its own thermostat, so pairing with a separate temperature controller is worth considering for basking bulbs left on for long periods.

Common questions

What's the maximum wattage bulb I can use?

150 W. Check the bulb's stated wattage against this before fitting it — the ceramic socket and housing are rated to that limit, not beyond it.

Does it come with a bulb?

No — the bulb is sold separately, so you can match wattage and type (basking, ceramic heat emitter or UVB) to your enclosure.

Can I use a ceramic heat emitter in it?

Yes — the ceramic socket is rated for sustained high-heat use, and Zoo Med lists the fixture as U.L. approved specifically for use with its own Ceramic Heat Emitter.

Does it have its own thermostat?

No — this is a fixture only. For a basking bulb left on for extended periods, pairing it with a separate thermostat is worth considering to avoid overheating the enclosure.

How does the wire cage help?

It keeps the hot dome from resting directly against a mesh lid, and reduces the chance of accidental contact with a hand during a bulb change or enclosure clean.
