Aqua Medic DC Runner Submersible Pump

A quiet submersible pump sized for filters, fountains and small circulation jobs. The Aqua Medic DC Runner submersible range covers four sizes – 400, 600, 800 and 1000 – built around the same ceramic-bearing, ultra-silent design as Aqua Medic's larger app-controlled pumps, but without the app: this is a straightforward 24 V DC pump for jobs that don't need scheduling or WiFi.

Key features
  • Four sizes – 400, 600, 800 and 1000 cover flows from 450 L/h up to 1,000 L/h.
  • Ceramic shaft and bearings – the same low-wear design used across Aqua Medic's pump range, built for continuous saltwater or freshwater duty.
  • IP X8 rated – fully submersible.
  • Universal power supply – a 100–240 V / 50–60 Hz transformer to a 24 V DC pump, so it runs on Australian 240 V / 50 Hz power without a converter.
  • Includes a pre-filter basket – fitted as standard to keep debris out of the impeller.

Performance at head height

Aqua Medic states a maximum flow and a maximum head per model rather than a full multi-point curve. Note that the 800 is rated to a lower maximum head (1.2 m) than the smaller 600 (1.7 m), even though its flow figure is higher – this is the manufacturer's own published figure, not a typo, and it means the 600 is the better choice of the two where you need more lift than flow.

Model Flow at low head Head at zero flow
400 up to 450 L/h 1.4 m
600 up to 600 L/h 1.7 m
800 up to 800 L/h 1.2 m
1000 up to 1,000 L/h 1.5 m
Which size do I need?

For a small canister or hang-on filter, powerhead-style circulation, or a small fountain or water feature, match rated flow to the job first, then check the max head figure covers your actual lift – a short lift with more flow needed points to the 1000; a taller, low-flow lift points to the 600.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for freshwater and marine aquaria, small sumps, fountains and water features, as a submersible circulation or filter-feed pump.
  • Not app-controlled and has no adjustable flow setting – for variable, schedulable flow see the Aqua Medic DC Runner x.3 app-control range. Not a dosing pump.
What's included
  • DC Runner submersible pump with pre-filter basket
  • 24 V transformer (100–240 V / 50–60 Hz)
Care and maintenance

Rinse the pre-filter basket and impeller assembly periodically to keep flow at its rated figure – a partially blocked intake is the most common cause of a pump underperforming its spec.

Safety

Mains-powered via the supplied transformer. Keep the transformer out of the water and above the aquarium's high-water line, and run it from an RCD-protected circuit, as is standard practice for aquarium equipment in Australia.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Aqua Medic's manufacturer warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight.

Common questions

Which model do I need for a small hang-on filter?

Check the filter manufacturer's recommended flow rate and compare it to the rated flow figures above – the 400 and 600 suit most small hang-on and internal filters.

Can I use it outside the aquarium, like in a garden fountain?

It's IP X8 rated for full submersion, so it will run in a fountain or water feature, but it isn't marketed or warranted specifically for outdoor or pond use – check UV and weather exposure of the cable and transformer separately.

Why is the 800 rated for less head than the 600?

The two models use different internal impeller geometry optimised for different flow-to-head balances. It's a genuine spec difference, not an error – check both rows in the table above against your actual lift before choosing.

Does it come with hose fittings?

The 400 and 600 use a fixed 13 mm hose connection; the 800 and 1000 ship with interchangeable 12/16/19 mm screw joints so you can match your existing hose.
