Aquavitro Shrimp Small Hut
A dark, perforated hideaway for a shrimp that needs to disappear. The Aquavitro Shrimp Small Hut is a 5.75 x 3.3 x 5 cm perforated ceramic hide from Seachem's aquavitro shrimp care range. Shrimp seek out dark, enclosed spots to lower stress and avoid predation, especially straight after moulting, when the new shell is soft, and while carrying eggs. The perforations let water and shrimp move freely while keeping the inside shaded.
Key features
- 5.75 x 3.3 x 5 cm low-profile hide - sits comfortably in the foreground of a nano or planted tank.
- Perforated ceramic walls - water flows through so the interior doesn't stagnate, while shrimp stay hidden from view.
- Shelters shrimp during moulting - cover for the period when a soft new shell leaves them exposed.
- Seclusion for berried females - a retreat for shrimp carrying eggs.
- Doubles as a grazing surface - the ceramic grows biofilm and fine algae as it establishes, a food source in its own right.
- Fresh and saltwater safe - aquavitro states there are no concerns using it in saltwater.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: freshwater and saltwater shrimp aquariums, nano tanks, breeding setups, foreground placement in a planted scape.
Not suitable for: tanks with fish able to reach through the perforations - the openings that let shrimp and water pass also let a slim-bodied predator try its luck.
Setting it up
Rinse under tap water, then place wherever suits the layout. No cycling or curing is required - biofilm and fine algae develop on the ceramic naturally as the tank matures.
Goes well with
- Aquavitro Shrimp Tall Hut - the upright companion piece, for a taller hide elsewhere in the tank.
- Aquavitro Shrimp Pipes - open-ended tubes to pair with the enclosed hut.
- Aquavitro Shrimp Stars - interlocking pieces to build out a larger refuge around the hut.
Warranty and delivery
Aquavitro does not publish a warranty term for its ceramic shrimp decor. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless. Ships as a standard parcel item.
Common questions
Do I need to rinse the hut before adding it to my tank?
Yes. Aquavitro's instructions are to rinse under tap water, then place the hut in the aquarium as desired.
Is it safe for a saltwater or reef tank?
Yes. Aquavitro states there should be no concerns using the Small Hut in saltwater.
What's the difference between the Small Hut and the Tall Hut?
Both are perforated ceramic hides. The Small Hut is a low-profile 5.75 x 3.3 x 5 cm shape suited to foreground placement; the Tall Hut is an upright 3.8 x 4 x 9 cm tower that tucks between plants and hardscape.
Will it affect my water parameters?
Aquavitro doesn't publish a water-chemistry effect for the ceramic hide - it's decor, not a treatment, and no dosing or buffering claim is made for it.
