Aquavitro Crescent Coral Cutter 19cm

Curved jaws reach the cuts a straight blade can't. The aquavitro Crescent Coral Cutter is a 19 cm fragging tool with a crescent-shaped stainless steel jaw, built to take a frag from inside a colony or at an awkward angle without disturbing the branches around it.

Key features
  • Crescent (curved) jaw - wraps around a branch instead of squeezing it head-on, so you can cut inside a colony without cutting through neighbouring branches first.
  • Surgical-grade stainless steel - won't corrode in a marine system and holds an edge through repeated use.
  • 19 cm overall length - long enough to reach into a deep colony without your hand going in the water.
  • Doubles as a plug-removal tool - the same curved jaw levers frags off their original mounting plugs and plates.

Which coral cutter do I need?
Model Jaw Length Best for
Crescent Coral Cutter Curved 19 cm Fragging inside a colony or at an angle, where a straight blade can't get in cleanly
Coral Cutter Straight 18 cm A clean single cut across an exposed branch
Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: fragging SPS and LPS coral, trimming fast-growing branches back from neighbours, and levering frags off plugs and plates. Safe to use in freshwater as well as marine systems.

Not suitable for: cutting through thick encrusting bases or rock - it is a coral-branch cutter, not a rock saw, and forcing it through solid rock will spring the jaw.

Care and maintenance

Rinse in fresh water and dry the jaws after every use. Coralline algae and salt creep left on the pivot will stiffen the action over time and dull the cutting edge faster than the cutting itself does.

Warranty and delivery

Seachem does not publish a separate warranty term for aquavitro tools. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless, and are not limited by anything the manufacturer does or does not offer. Standard freight.

Common questions

What's the difference between the Crescent Coral Cutter and the straight Coral Cutter?

Both are 18-19 cm surgical-grade stainless steel fragging tools from the same aquavitro line. The Crescent has a curved jaw that wraps around a branch, which is the one to reach for inside a colony or at an angle. The straight-jaw Coral Cutter is better for a clean cut straight across an exposed branch.

Can I use this in a freshwater tank?

Yes. The stainless steel construction is safe in both marine and freshwater systems, though it's built primarily for coral fragging.

Will it cut through a coral's rock base?

No. It's designed for branches, not the encrusting or rock base of a colony. Use a dedicated saw or chisel for base material.

How do I stop it rusting?

Rinse and dry it after each use. Surgical-grade stainless resists corrosion well, but salt left to dry on the pivot will still cause it to stiffen and eventually pit.
