Aquavitro Shrimp Tube
A ceramic hideaway shrimp turn to when they're vulnerable. The aquavitro Shrimp Tube is a small perforated ceramic tunnel from Seachem's aquavitro range, measuring 3.75 x 3.75 x 7 cm. It gives shrimp somewhere to retreat during moulting and the breeding cycle — the two moments they're most exposed to tank-mates — while the open ends and perforated walls keep water moving through rather than creating a stagnant dead end.
Key features
- Perforated ceramic tunnel — open ends and side perforations give shelter with flow-through, not a dead-end box shrimp can get trapped in.
- Moulting and breeding refuge — somewhere to retreat when shrimp are at their softest and most exposed to tank-mates.
- Biofilm surface — the ceramic grows biofilm and fine algae over time, which shrimp graze on, doubling as a feeding station.
- Freshwater and saltwater — the same tube suits a freshwater shrimp tank or a marine nano.
- Compact footprint — 3.75 x 3.75 x 7 cm suits nano and shrimp-specific tanks without dominating the aquascape.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for freshwater shrimp (Neocaridina, Caridina and similar) and marine nano shrimp, in tanks sized to suit a nano hide.
- Not designed as a hide for large or boisterous fish — it's sized and shaped for shrimp, not general aquarium decor.
Care and maintenance
Rinse under tap water before placing it in the aquarium. No ongoing maintenance is needed beyond normal tank cleaning — biofilm builds up naturally on the ceramic surface over time in an established tank.
Goes well with
Other pieces in the aquavitro shrimp range (huts, stacks, cubes and stars) combine with the Shrimp Tube to give a shrimp colony more retreat options, alongside shrimp-safe substrate and fine-leaved plants for grazing surface.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer assurance. Ships as a small ceramic item under standard freight.
Common questions
Does the Shrimp Tube work in a saltwater nano tank?
Yes — aquavitro states it may be used in both freshwater and saltwater setups.
Do I need to rinse it before use?
Yes, a quick rinse under tap water is all it needs before going into the tank.
Will biofilm grow on it automatically?
Given time in an established tank, yes — the ceramic surface is porous enough for biofilm and fine algae to colonise, which shrimp then graze on.
Can I use more than one in the same tank?
Yes — several tubes, or a mix of other pieces from the aquavitro shrimp range, can be combined to give a colony more retreat options.
