Arcadia T8 120cm 6% uvb Tube-36w
A 1200 mm T8 UVB tube built to light the full length of a long forest or part-sun enclosure at a gentle 6% output. The Arcadia T8 120 cm UVB Tube is a Forest-strength (6% UV-B) T8 fluorescent lamp, 36 W, sold in this length only - it does not come in the Desert 12% or Dragon 14% strengths Arcadia offers on its shorter T5 and T8 tubes, so this specific product is for species that want shade-to-part-sun UV-B, not for open-basking desert reptiles.
T8 output runs lower than the T5 HO tubes in the Arcadia range at the same UV-B percentage - the trade-off is a cheaper, more widely compatible fitting, run on an ordinary T8 ballast rather than a dedicated HO controller. At 1200 mm it is the longest tube in the range we stock, suited to walk-in enclosures, long vivariums and aviary-style setups running a single continuous UV-B strip.
Key features
- 1200 mm (48") length - the longest UVB tube in our Arcadia range, for full-length coverage of large enclosures.
- Forest 6% UV-B - shade and part-sun output, not the higher Desert or Dragon strengths.
- Standard T8 fitting - runs on an ordinary T8 ballast, not the T5 HO controller the higher-output tubes in our range need.
- 6600K colour temperature with 12% UV-A alongside the UV-B.
- 12 month rated lifespan before UV-B output has declined enough to need replacement.
UV Index by distance
Arcadia's own reading with lamp and reflector, Solarmeter 6.5. Figures are published to 380 mm; Arcadia does not publish T8 Forest readings beyond that distance, so the table stops where the data does rather than extrapolating.
| Distance from lamp | Forest 6% - UVI |
|---|---|
| 250 mm / 10" | 2.00 |
| 300 mm / 12" | 1.45 |
| 380 mm / 15" | 0.95 |
These readings are with a reflector fitted - a bare T8 tube with no reflector will read lower again at the same distance, since UV-B is emitted in all directions rather than focused down.
UV zone and which species it suits
Against our UV zone bands (Cryptophotic 0-2, Mesophotic 3-5, Euphotic 6-7, Heliophotic 8-10), this tube sits within the Cryptophotic zone across its published range (UVI 0.95-2.00). Arcadia's Forest species list is chameleons, day geckos, iguanas, water dragons, map turtles, dwarf crocodiles, rainbow whiptails and blue-tongued skinks - shade and filtered-light animals, not species that need an open-sun basking spot. If your species needs a UVI above roughly 2.0 at the basking perch, this tube will not reach it even mounted close, and a Desert-strength lamp is the better fit.
Will it fit my enclosure?
At 1200 mm this is built for enclosures around 1.2 m or longer, where it lights the full length rather than a mid-section. Because the published range tops out at a UVI of 2.00 at 250 mm, keep the basking perch reasonably close to the tube if your species needs the upper end of that range - a Forest 6% T8 mounted well back in a tall enclosure will deliver very little at the perch.

Not included
Tube only. A T8 ballast and a reflector are required to run it at the output shown above and are sold separately. Fit a guard wherever the animal can reach the fitting.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: long forest and part-sun reptile or amphibian enclosures - chameleons, day geckos, water dragons and similar species needing low-to-moderate UV-B across a long enclosure.
Not suitable for: desert or high-UV species such as bearded dragons and uromastyx, which need the higher output of a Desert or Dragon strength tube; enclosures shorter than about a metre, where a shorter tube is a better fit and this one is unnecessary cost and length.
Safety
Do not look directly at an operating UV-B lamp. Position the fitting so the animal cannot make direct contact with the tube. Fit a guard where climbing access is possible. UV-B does not pass through ordinary glass or most acrylic, so mount with a clear path to the basking area.
Care and maintenance
Replace on a 12 month cycle regardless of whether the tube still lights - UV-B output falls well ahead of visible light failing. Keep the tube and reflector free of dust.
Goes well with
- Arcadia T8 90cm 30W UVB Tube - a shorter T8 option, also available in Desert 12% if your species needs a stronger UV-B source.
- Arcadia T5 90cm 39W UVB Tube - a higher-output T5 HO alternative at a similar length, in Forest, Desert or Dragon strength.
Warranty and delivery
Arcadia does not publish a fixed warranty term on UV-B tubes - they are a consumable with an expected 12 month working life, not a defects item. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless. This is a glass fluorescent tube at 1200 mm; standard freight applies, packed to avoid breakage in transit.
Common questions
Does this tube come in Desert or Dragon strength?
Not at this length in our range - this 120 cm T8 is Forest 6% only. For a higher UV-B output, look at the Arcadia T5 HO tubes in our range, which are sold in Forest, Desert and Dragon strengths.
Will this suit a bearded dragon?
No. Bearded dragons need the higher output of a Desert 12% or Dragon 14% strength lamp to reach a useful basking UVI - this Forest 6% T8 tops out at a UVI of 2.00 even mounted close, which is a Cryptophotic-zone reading suited to shade species, not desert baskers.
Can I use this tube without a reflector?
You can run it, but output at the basking spot will be lower than the figures above, which are measured with a reflector fitted. A reflector is a meaningful part of getting useful UV-B from a T8 tube, not an optional extra.
How long will it take to arrive and is it fragile?
It ships as a 1200 mm glass tube on standard freight, packed to prevent breakage. Handle it the same way you would any long fluorescent tube once it arrives.
How often do I need to replace it?
Every 12 months, on a calendar reminder rather than by eye - UV-B output drops well before the tube stops producing visible light.
