All three kits use the same Waterfall Internal Filter and the same cartridge size – the difference between BIS220, BIS221 and BIS222 is the tank the filter sits in, not the filter itself.

Bioscape doesn't publish a fixed replacement schedule for this cartridge. As a general rule for a mixed carbon/zeolite/sponge cartridge in a small starter kit filter: rinse the sponge in removed tank water at each water change to clear debris, and replace the whole cartridge once flow visibly drops or the carbon and zeolite stop pulling out odour and discolouration – carbon and zeolite are consumed and don't recharge, even though the sponge itself can be rinsed and reused for longer. If you run two kits, this 2-pack covers one replacement on each.

• Rinse in removed tank water, not tap water, to protect the bacteria colonising the ceramic media and sponge.
• Replace rather than rinse once the carbon and zeolite are exhausted – rinsing restores the sponge but not the chemical media.
• Where possible, run the new cartridge alongside the old one for a few days rather than swapping all the media at once, so the bacteria colony isn't lost in a single change.

• Suitable for: Bioscape Tropic and Deluxe Starter Kits BIS220, BIS221 and BIS222 only.
• Not suitable for: other Bioscape filter lines (Velocity, Hang On, Canister, Tropic Clearview Desktop) – those use different cartridge shapes and this one won't fit or seal correctly.

Will this fit my Bioscape Clearview Desktop or Velocity filter?

No. This cartridge is sized for the Waterfall Internal Filter used in the BIS220/221/222 starter kits only – Bioscape's other filter ranges use their own cartridge shapes.

Do I need to rinse or replace the whole cartridge?

Both, at different times. Rinse the sponge portion in tank water regularly to clear debris; replace the cartridge once the carbon and zeolite have stopped working, since those two media are consumed and can't be recharged by rinsing.

What's actually in the cartridge?

Four media: filter sponge for mechanical filtration, ceramic media for biological filtration, and activated carbon plus zeolite for chemical filtration and ammonia control.

Does one 2-pack cover both my starter kits?
