Bioscape Air Pump 1000

A quiet, low-cost air pump sized for aquariums up to 45 litres. The Bioscape Air Pump 1000 drives a single airstone, sponge filter or bubbling ornament from a 2 W motor that Bioscape rates for continuous, round-the-clock use. A check valve is included in the box, so it's ready to run the moment you position it above or beside the tank.

Key features
  • 2 W energy-efficient motor – runs continuously for only a few dollars a year in power.
  • Single outlet – drives one airstone, sponge filter or ornament.
  • Bonus check valve included – no separate purchase needed to stop back-siphon.
  • Quiet operation – Bioscape markets this pump on noise as much as output.
  • Freshwater and marine safe – suits both setups.

Will it fit my tank?

This pump is rated for aquariums up to 45 L running a single airstone or ornament. It is not sized for larger displays or for driving more than one outlet – for those, step up within the Tropic range.

Which Bioscape Tropic pump do I need?
Model Output Outlets Guide tank size
Tropic 1000 (this pump) 1.0 L/min 1 Up to 45 L
Tropic 2000 2.3 L/min 1 Up to 50 L
Tropic 4000 Controllable, dual outlet 2 Up to 300 L

Bioscape also lists a Tropic 8000 for larger multi-tank setups; check its output against your total airline run before choosing.

What's included

  • Air pump body
  • Single outlet fitting
  • Bonus check valve

Not included

  • Airline tubing
  • Airstone or diffuser
Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: freshwater and marine aquariums up to 45 L running one airstone, sponge filter or ornament.
  • Not suitable for: tanks over 45 L, setups needing more than one outlet, or submersion – the pump body itself must never go underwater.
Running costs and noise

At 2 W run continuously, this pump uses roughly 18 kWh a year – around $5.40 a year at a 30c/kWh tariff. Bioscape describes the motor as quiet-running; it does not publish a decibel figure for this model, so treat "quiet" as a manufacturer description rather than a measured spec.

Care and maintenance
  • Keep the pump above the waterline where possible; if it must sit level with or below the water's surface, the included check valve is essential.
  • Replace airline tubing once it goes stiff or discoloured – hardened tubing splits at the fittings.
  • Wipe the pump body dry if it's ever splashed; it is not a submersible unit.
Safety

This is a 240 V mains-powered appliance. Run the power cord with a drip loop so water can't track down the cord into the socket, and plug aquarium electricals into an RCD-protected outlet as standard practice around water.

Common questions

Do I need the check valve?

Yes, if the pump sits at or below the aquarium's waterline. It stops tank water siphoning back down the airline into the pump when it's switched off. One is included in the box.

Can I leave it running all the time?

Yes – Bioscape rates this pump for continuous operation, and most aquarists run air pumps 24/7 for steady oxygenation and water movement.

Will it run my 60 L tank?

It's rated to 45 L. For a 60 L tank, or if you plan to run more than one airstone, the Tropic 2000 or Tropic 4000 is the better fit.

Is it safe for a marine or reef tank?

Yes, it's rated for both freshwater and marine use.

What airline tubing does it use?

Standard-fit aquarium airline, such as Bioscape's own airline tubing sold by the metre or the 100 m roll.
