Bioscape Tropic Air Pump 1000 Single w/Check Valve

Quiet, steady aeration for tanks up to 45 litres. The Bioscape Tropic 1000 is a single-outlet air pump built for nano and small aquariums, moving a steady 60 litres of air an hour through one line — enough to run an airstone, a sponge filter or a small ornament without the buzz of a cheap pump. A check valve is included, so the line is protected the moment it's installed.

Key features
  • 60 L/h single-outlet output — enough for one airstone, sponge filter or ornament in a nano to small tank.
  • Check valve included — stops water siphoning back into the pump if it's mounted below the waterline.
  • Energy-efficient diaphragm motor — runs continuously without a noticeable hum in a quiet room.
  • Freshwater and marine safe — the same pump works across a community tank, a planted tank or a nano reef sump.
  • Compact footprint — sits on a shelf or cabinet top beside the tank; no plumbing into the aquarium itself.

Which Tropic air pump do I need?

Bioscape's Tropic range steps up in output as tank size grows. The 1000 is the entry point for anything under about 45 litres; for a bigger single tank or a run of two lines, size up.

Model Outlets Output Tank size Speed control
Tropic 1000 Single 60 L/h Up to 45 L No
Tropic 2000 Single 138 L/h 25–50 L No
Tropic 3000 Twin 360 L/h total 50–300 L No
Tropic 4000 Twin 360 L/h total Up to 300 L Yes — stepless

If you only need one airline and your tank is under 45 L, the 1000 is the right size — stepping up to the 2000 for a tank this small mostly buys quieter running at the same duty cycle, not extra capacity you'll use.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for single-airline aeration in nano and small freshwater or marine aquariums: one airstone, one sponge filter, or one air-driven ornament. Not intended to run two air-driven devices at once — for two lines, or for anything over 45 L, step up to the Tropic 2000 or 3000 instead.

Safety

Mains-powered — position the pump above the aquarium's waterline wherever possible, and always use the supplied check valve on the airline if the pump sits at or below water level. This stops water siphoning back into the pump during a power outage.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the housing dry and keep the intake vents free of dust. Diaphragm-driven air pumps lose output gradually as the rubber diaphragm ages; if the airflow noticeably drops off, the diaphragm is the first thing to check and replace rather than the whole pump.

Warranty and delivery

Covered under Bioscape's manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery — no special freight handling required.

Goes well with
  • Airline tubing — to connect the pump to its airstone or ornament.
  • Airstones or air-driven ornaments — the load the pump is sized to run.
  • Sponge filter — a common single-line pairing for nano and breeding tanks.
Common questions

Will the Tropic 1000 run a sponge filter and an airstone at the same time?

Not well — it has one outlet and is sized for one device. Splitting the line to run two things at once will noticeably reduce output to both. For two lines, choose the Tropic 3000 or 4000.

Do I need the check valve if the pump sits above the tank?

It's still worth using. A check valve protects against back-siphoning if the pump is ever moved, unplugged, or loses power while positioned at or near water level.

Is it loud?

Bioscape markets it as a quiet-running pump; no decibel figure is published for this model, so if noise is a concern in a bedroom setting, sitting the pump on a folded cloth reduces vibration noise further.

Is it safe for a marine nano tank?

Yes — it's rated for freshwater and marine use.
