Bioscape Ammonia Extraction Cubes 85+
Chemical filter media that pulls ammonia straight out of the water column. Bioscape Ammonia Extraction Cubes are poly-fibre pads impregnated with an ammonia-absorbing resin, supplied as 85+ individual cubes so you can dose the amount you need into any mechanical filter compartment.
Key features
- Ammonia-absorbing resin - actively pulls ammonia out of aquarium water rather than just trapping debris.
- 85+ cubes per pack - individual 4 x 3 cm cubes, so you can add a handful or fill a whole media basket depending on your filter size and ammonia load.
- Fits almost any filter - canister filters, power filters, trickle and wet/dry filters, powerheads and pond filters.
- Freshwater and marine safe.

When to use it
Ammonia extraction cubes are a targeted tool, not a permanent fixture - reach for them once ammonia starts climbing above safe levels, typically after the initial cycling process, during a mini-cycle after a bioload increase, or in a quarantine tank without an established biofilter. Keep testing ammonia while the cubes are in place; they buy time, they don't replace a working nitrogen cycle.
Care and maintenance
Replace the cubes roughly every 30 to 60 days - sooner if ammonia is climbing quickly, later in a lightly stocked, well-cycled tank. Once the resin is exhausted it stops adsorbing and needs replacing rather than rinsing.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums, ponds, and quarantine or hospital tanks. Not a substitute for biological filtration long-term - if ammonia keeps returning, check stocking levels, feeding and filter maintenance rather than relying on the cubes indefinitely.
Goes well with
An ammonia test kit to know when levels are climbing, and Bioscape's Ammonia Extraction Pad where a cut-to-fit sheet suits your filter better than loose cubes.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights as a consumer under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer terms.
Common questions
How many cubes do I need?
It depends on your filter's media capacity and how high ammonia is running - start with a handful in a mechanical media compartment and add more if levels don't come down.
Can I rinse and reuse the cubes?
No. Once the resin has adsorbed as much ammonia as it can, it's exhausted and needs replacing rather than rinsing.
Will this replace my biological filter?
No - it's a short-term chemical measure for ammonia spikes, not a substitute for an established biofilter.
Is it safe to run with medication or carbon at the same time?
Bioscape doesn't publish interaction data for this product, so if you're dosing medication at the same time, check with us or run them at different times to be safe.
