Bioscape LED Plant
One aluminium light bar, seven lengths, sized to the exact width of your tank. The Bioscape LED Plant is an edge-mounted freshwater light built for plant growth and viewing, running a fixed 6500K white spectrum across every size from a nano 45 cm strip up to a 121 cm Aluminium bar for large tanks. Bioscape sells it in seven lengths so you can match the fixture to your tank's width rather than overhang or undershoot it.
Key features
- 6500K white spectrum — a bright, natural-looking white tuned for plant growth and everyday viewing rather than colour-boosting for fish.
- Seven lengths — 45 cm, 50 cm, 60 cm, 61 cm Aluminium, 91 cm Aluminium, 101 cm Aluminium and 121 cm Aluminium, so there's a size for most standard tank widths.
- Aluminium body on the four larger sizes (61 cm and up), with cell-cast acrylic support ends that clip to the aquarium's edge or rim.
- Diffused lens — spreads the LEDs into an even wash of light rather than a row of visible points.
- Timer and dimming on the 91 cm and 101 cm Aluminium sizes — Bioscape's own listings for these two lengths specifically mention a timer and dimmer; the 45–61 cm sizes aren't listed with this feature, so treat them as standard on/off fixtures unless your packaging says otherwise.

Which length do I need?
Measure the outside width of your tank, not the water width — the acrylic support ends need to clip onto the rim or glass edge at each side. Pick the size closest to that measurement rather than rounding up; an oversized bar overhangs the tank and casts light past the glass rather than into it. If your tank falls between two sizes, the shorter one gives more even coverage across the water surface than a longer bar mounted off-centre.
Will it fit my tank?
This is an edge-mount, clip-on light rather than a full hood — it sits above an open-top tank on acrylic support ends, so it won't suit a tank with a fitted glass lid unless the lid has a cut-out. Check clearance above the waterline before ordering if your setup runs close to a cabinet or shelf above.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater planted tanks where the aim is healthy plant growth and clear, natural-looking viewing light. Not suitable as a primary reef light — Bioscape doesn't publish PAR output for this range, and a single fixed 6500K white spectrum doesn't cover the blue-shifted spectrum reef corals are typically lit with.
Running costs
Running cost scales with size. Based on an 8-hour photoperiod — a typical planted-tank day length — at 30c/kWh:
| Size | Daily use | Approx. annual cost |
|---|---|---|
| 45 cm / 50 cm (18 W) | 0.144 kWh | ~$16/yr |
| 60 cm (24 W) | 0.192 kWh | ~$21/yr |
| 61 cm Aluminium (40 W) | 0.32 kWh | ~$35/yr |
| 91 cm Aluminium (50 W) | 0.4 kWh | ~$44/yr |
| 101 cm / 121 cm Aluminium (60 W) | 0.48 kWh | ~$53/yr |
These are estimates against a stated 8-hour photoperiod and a 30c/kWh tariff, not a published Bioscape figure — actual cost depends on your electricity plan and how long you run the light.
Care and maintenance
Wipe the diffuser lens periodically — salt creep and hard-water spray dull output over time on tanks with open tops. Bioscape sells this as a fixture rather than a bulb-replacement unit, so there's no published globe or driver spare part for it.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Do the smaller sizes have a timer and dimmer too?
Not confirmed. Bioscape's own listings mention a timer and dimming controller specifically for the 91 cm and 101 cm Aluminium sizes. The 45 cm to 61 cm sizes aren't listed with this feature, so assume basic on/off unless the box says otherwise.
Is this bright enough for a reef tank?
No. It's a fixed 6500K white light built for freshwater planted tanks and general viewing. Bioscape doesn't publish PAR figures for this range, and reef corals generally need a higher-PAR, blue-shifted light.
Does it come with a lid or hood?
No. It's an edge-mount fixture that clips onto the tank rim on acrylic support ends — it sits above the water rather than forming part of a hood.
Can I run two side by side on a long tank?
Bioscape doesn't publish a linking or daisy-chain spec for this range, so treat each unit as running from its own power point unless you've confirmed otherwise.
