Bioscape Sitting Tree Monster 17.5 x 17cm
A driftwood-look hideout without the weeks it takes real wood to sink. The Bioscape Sitting Tree Monster is a hand-finished, non-toxic resin ornament shaped like a gnarled, root-covered tree stump, sized at 17.5 x 17 cm. It gives a display the look of aged driftwood and root structure straight away, with none of the floating, soaking or tannin release real wood needs before it settles in.
Key features
- Hand-finished resin — cast and hand-painted, so texture and colour vary slightly piece to piece.
- Instant hardscape — sinks and sits in place straight away, unlike real driftwood, which needs weeks of soaking before it stops floating.
- Root-stump shape with built-in hides — the gnarled base and overhangs give shy fish and shrimp somewhere to retreat.
- Freshwater and marine safe — rated for both fresh and reef/marine setups.
- Non-toxic, inert resin — won't affect pH or hardness, and won't leach tannins the way real driftwood does.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums wanting an aged driftwood look without the prep, and community or shrimp tanks that need a hide feature. Not sold or finished as a reptile climbing or basking feature — it's built and finished as an aquatic ornament.
Care and maintenance
Rinse thoroughly under running water before adding it to the tank, to clear any manufacturing dust or loose resin particles. No soaking or curing is required — it's inert and won't affect water chemistry.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships by standard parcel post.
Common questions
Will it affect my water chemistry?
No — it's a non-toxic, inert resin that doesn't alter pH or hardness.
Does it float or sink?
It sinks and sits in place on the substrate; no gluing or weighting down is needed for normal use.
Is it reef safe?
Bioscape markets it as safe for both freshwater and marine setups. As with any ornament going into a sensitive reef system, rinse it well and introduce it gradually if you're being cautious.
Can shrimp and fry use it as a hide?
Yes — the root-stump shape has overhangs and gaps that work as shelter for shrimp and small fish.
Goes well with
Pairs naturally with a fine, dark substrate that suits the driftwood look, a low-growing foreground plant like dwarf hairgrass planted around the base, and a piece of moss tied on with aquarium-safe glue to soften the resin's edges over time.
