Bioscape Steampunk Fish 24 x 8 x 12cm
A full-length mechanical fish with gear detailing fish and shrimp can dart through. The Bioscape Steampunk Fish is a hand-finished, non-toxic resin aquarium ornament at 24 × 8 × 12 cm, styled as a riveted, gear-panelled fish with open gaps in the body that work as swim-throughs.
Key features
- Full-length centrepiece — at 24 cm long, this is the largest footprint in the steampunk fish range, suited to tanks with room for a single strong focal piece.
- Hand-finished resin — cast and hand-painted, so texture and colour vary slightly piece to piece.
- Riveted, gear-panelled body — mechanical detailing moulded into the resin rather than printed on, so it doesn't wear off with cleaning.
- Open swim-through gaps — panel gaps along the body let fish and shrimp pass through rather than just hide alongside it.

Which steampunk fish size do I need?
Bioscape sells this design across three sizes. The comparison below covers all three so you can weigh footprint against tank size before ordering.
| Model | Dimensions | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steampunk Fish Small | 10.5 × 4.5 × 10 cm | $22.95 | Nano tanks and tight aquascapes |
| Steampunk Fish Medium | 20 × 5.5 × 19 cm | $37.95 | A taller vertical accent among low hardscape |
| Steampunk Fish | 24 × 8 × 12 cm | $37.95 | A full-length centrepiece with the most footprint |
This standard size carries the largest footprint of the three and reads as a single strong focal point rather than a background piece — it suits display tanks from roughly 60 cm upward where there's room for a fish this length without crowding the aquascape.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums wanting a steampunk-styled focal ornament with genuine swim-through gaps. Not designed or finished as a reptile climbing or basking feature — it's an aquatic ornament, not a terrarium piece.
Care and maintenance
Rinse thoroughly under running water before adding it to the tank to clear any manufacturing dust or loose resin particles. No soaking or curing is required — it's inert and won't affect pH or water chemistry.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Will it affect my water chemistry?
No — it's a non-toxic, inert resin that doesn't alter pH or hardness.
Does it float or sink?
It sinks and sits in place on the substrate; no gluing or weighting down is needed for normal use.
How is this different from the Medium size?
This standard size is longer and lower — 24 cm long by 12 cm high — where the Medium is shorter and taller at 20 cm long by 19 cm high. Pick this one for a horizontal focal piece, the Medium for a vertical accent.
Is it reef safe?
Bioscape markets it as safe for both freshwater and marine setups, but as with any ornament in a sensitive reef system, rinse it well and introduce it gradually if you're being cautious.
