Exo Terra All Glass Large Tall Terrarium 90 x 45 x 60cm

The rock background is already in the box. The Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Large Tall (PT2614) is a 90 x 45 x 60 cm front-opening glass enclosure with dual locking doors, a fully removable stainless steel mesh top and a waterproof raised base. It gives 90 cm of floor width alongside genuine climbing height.

Exo Terra supplies its moulded Rock Terrarium Background with this terrarium, pre-cut for wires and tubing. Substrate, decor, lighting, heating and a cabinet are all separate purchases.

Key features
  • Rock Terrarium Background included - a moulded, easy-to-cut background with a background cut-out for wires and tubing. It is part of this terrarium, not an add-on.
  • Dual front-opening doors - they open separately, so you can work in one half of a large enclosure without opening the whole front.
  • Specially designed door lock - Exo Terra's escape-prevention lock on the front doors, plus an easy-twist lock on the screen cover.
  • Dual ventilation - front window ventilation working with the full screen top, which is what keeps condensation off the front glass in a humid build.
  • Stainless steel mesh cover - allows UVB and infrared penetration and lifts off completely for decorating and cleaning.
  • Raised, waterproof base - the bottom plate is raised specifically so a substrate heater can be mounted to heat part of the ground surface.
  • Five closable inlets each side - at the rear of the screen cover, for heat rock cables, waterfall tubing and sensor probes.
  • Extra-high fixed front window - Exo Terra designed it for thick substrate layers for burrowing species, or for an aquatic section in a paludarium build.

Exo Terra does not publish the internal height, glass thickness, glass type, empty weight, packed weight, carton dimensions, mesh aperture, a UVB transmission percentage for the screen, a species list or a warranty term for this terrarium. We have not estimated any of them. Where one of those figures matters to your build, ask us and we will measure the unit in stock rather than quote a number the manufacturer has not published.

Will it fit, and what mounting distance does it give?

The footprint is 90 x 45 cm, so any stand or cabinet needs to carry at least that. The matching Exo Terra Terrarium Cabinet Large (PT2708) measures 91.5 x 46.5 x 70.5 cm and Exo Terra states it fits the Natural Terrarium Large, including this tall configuration. Exo Terra publishes no load rating for that cabinet, so check the rating of any stand you use against a furnished terrarium of this size.

Mounting distance is the number that matters for reptile lighting, because both UV index and basking temperature fall off sharply with distance. The external height here is 60 cm. Exo Terra does not publish an internal or usable height for the Natural Terrarium range, and the raised base frame and substrate depth both eat into it.

So we will not print a lamp-to-basking-surface figure here. Once your substrate depth is settled, measure from the underside of the mesh to the surface your animal will actually bask on, and read that measured distance off your lamp's own UV index or temperature chart.

Lighting and heating that suits a 90 cm terrarium
  • Compact Top Large (PT2228) - 90 x 19 x 7.5 cm, four sockets, rated to 26 W per bulb and 104 W in total. Exo Terra states it fits the Natural Terrarium Large.
  • T5 Terrarium Top 39 W (PT4257) - a 90 cm T5 fixture. Note that Exo Terra states no terrarium-width compatibility for its T5 tops: the length matches, but the fixture is designed to sit on the mesh or mount inside on optional clips (PT4259), so confirm your arrangement rather than assuming a fit.
  • Substrate heating - the raised bottom frame is designed for a substrate heater underneath. Exo Terra's guidance is that heat mats can be used with any glass terrarium as long as there is proper ventilation and the installation instructions are followed.
  • Clamp lamps - do not clamp a lamp to the frame or glass. Exo Terra directs keepers to the Light Dome used with the Light Bracket on its terrariums.

On UVB through the screen: Exo Terra says the stainless steel mesh allows UVB and infrared penetration, but publishes no transmission percentage. Every mesh absorbs some UVB. If your species has a specific UV index target, verify it with a UV meter at the basking site rather than working from a figure.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: burrowing species needing a deep substrate layer, which the extra-high front window is designed around; climbing and arboreal setups that use the full 60 cm of height; bioactive planted builds; paludarium builds with a water section.

Not suitable for: outdoor use; species whose adult floor-space requirement exceeds 90 x 45 cm; mounting clamp lamps on the frame. Exo Terra publishes no species recommendation for this size, so check your species' adult requirements against the footprint and height rather than relying on the enclosure being described as large.

Care and maintenance
  • The screen cover lifts off completely, which makes decorating, deep cleaning and replacing a background far easier than working through a front door.
  • The waterproof base tolerates damp substrate and misting.
  • Replacement screen covers (PT2618, 45 x 90 cm) and replacement left and right doors are available for this model, so a broken component does not mean a new terrarium.
  • Check the door lock and the easy-twist screen lock regularly. Both are escape-prevention parts and both are wear items.
Safety and handling
  • Treat it as a two-person lift. Exo Terra publishes no weight for this terrarium and no handling requirement, so this is our own advice rather than a manufacturer instruction: a 90 cm glass enclosure is awkward and heavy, and it should be moved empty.
  • Set it on a level, solid floor. Furnished with substrate, a moulded background and hardscape, a terrarium this size becomes heavy enough that the stand and the floor both matter.
  • Use a stand rated for the load. Exo Terra does not publish a load rating for its matching cabinet, so confirm the rating of whatever you put it on.

Warranty and delivery

Exo Terra publishes no warranty term for the Natural Terrarium range, so we have not stated one. Any manufacturer's warranty applies in addition to the consumer guarantees you have under Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by it.

Oversize freight. This is a large glass enclosure and is handled accordingly.

Common questions

Does the Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Large Tall come with a background?

Yes. Exo Terra includes its moulded Rock Terrarium Background with the Natural Terrarium Large Tall (PT2614), with a cut-out for wires and tubing. This matters because Exo Terra also sells a Pro Terrarium at the same 90 x 45 x 60 cm size which does not list a background - that is a different product with a different part number.

How far above the animal can I mount a UVB or basking lamp?

The terrarium is 60 cm tall externally, but Exo Terra does not publish an internal or usable height, and both the raised base frame and your substrate depth reduce it. Measure from the underside of the mesh to the actual basking surface once your substrate is in, then read that measured distance off your lamp's own UV index or temperature chart.

Can I run a heat mat underneath it?

Yes. Exo Terra raised the bottom plate of this terrarium specifically so a substrate heater can be mounted to heat part of the ground surface. Exo Terra's stated guidance is that its heat mats can be used with any type of glass terrarium provided there is proper ventilation and the installation guidelines are followed.

Which Exo Terra lighting fits a 90 cm terrarium?

The Compact Top Large (PT2228) is 90 cm long with four sockets rated to 26 W per bulb and 104 W total, and Exo Terra states it fits the Natural Terrarium Large. The T5 Terrarium Top 39 W (PT4257) is also 90 cm long, but Exo Terra publishes no terrarium-width compatibility for its T5 tops - it is designed to sit on the mesh or mount inside using optional clips.

Does the stainless steel mesh block UVB?

Exo Terra states the screen top allows UVB and infrared penetration but publishes no transmission percentage, and any mesh absorbs some UVB. If your species has a specific UV index target, measure it with a UV meter at the basking site rather than relying on a published figure, because the reduction depends on the mesh, the lamp and the distance together.

Can I clamp a lamp onto the frame?

No. Exo Terra's clamp lamp fixtures must not be mounted onto glass items, terrariums, shelves or aquariums. For an Exo Terra terrarium the manufacturer directs you to the Light Dome used with the Light Bracket, or to a canopy designed to sit on the screen cover.
