Exo Terra All Glass Mini Wide Terrarium - 30 x 30 x 30cm
Front-opening glass housing for small species, in a 30 cm cube.
The Exo Terra All Glass Mini Wide Terrarium is a 30 × 30 × 30 cm (12 × 12 × 12 in) front-opening glass terrarium with a removable stainless steel screen top and a raised, waterproof base. It gives roughly 900 cm² of floor area, and the Exo Terra Rock Terrarium Background is already in the box. It is the smallest enclosure in the Exo Terra glass range.
Key features
- Dual front-opening doors — you reach in from the side instead of looming overhead, which is how a predator approaches.
- Removable stainless steel mesh top — UVB and infrared pass straight through, so lamps sit on the screen rather than inside the enclosure.
- Front window ventilation — the dual ventilation system pulls air across the inside of the front glass, which keeps condensation off the panel you look through.
- Raised waterproof base — a substrate heater fits underneath the glass, and the floor holds damp substrate or a shallow water section without leaking.
- Five closable wire and tube inlets — thermostat probes, heater cables and misting lines run in without leaving an escape gap.
- Easy-twist screen lock and lockable doors — the top comes off in one movement for cleaning, and both front doors lock shut.
- Rock Terrarium Background included — fitted to the rear panel and pre-cut for wires and tubing.
What's included
- Mini Wide glass terrarium, 30 × 30 × 30 cm
- Removable stainless steel screen top with easy-twist lock

Not included
This is an empty enclosure, not a starter kit. Everything below is bought separately.
- Heating — a basking lamp, ceramic heat emitter or substrate heater
- A digital thermostat to control that heat source
- UVB lighting and a lamp fixture, if your species needs it
- A lamp stand or bracket — the screen top has no lamp fitting of its own
- Substrate, water dish, hides and climbing decor

The Mini Wide is the only cube in the range, and the only model where height matches footprint. It suits a nano planted build, a single small climbing gecko or an invertebrate display. Step up to the 45 × 45 × 30 cm Low if you want more than double the floor area at a similar height.
What you can mount above it
Lamps sit on the mesh top, so the gap between lamp and animal is the enclosure height minus whatever the animal is standing on. That gap decides whether a lamp is safe, and it is the figure most enclosure listings leave out.
| Where the animal sits | Approximate distance below the screen top |
|---|---|
| On the substrate | Under 30 cm |
| On a hide or low branch around 10 cm high | Under 20 cm |
| On a high basking branch around 20 cm | Under 10 cm |
Check those figures against the minimum mounting distance printed on any UVB or basking lamp before you buy it. A 30 cm enclosure puts a high-output UVB lamp far closer than its chart allows. Exo Terra does not publish an internal clear height for this model, so measure the assembled terrarium before committing to a lamp.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for
- A single small arboreal gecko or similar species whose published minimum footprint fits inside 30 × 30 cm
- Nano planted and bioactive builds
- Terrestrial invertebrate display
- Quarantine or grow-on housing
Not suitable for
- Any species whose care guidance asks for a footprint larger than 30 × 30 cm
- Running a proper thermal gradient — 30 cm is too short to hold a distinct warm end and cool end
- Housing two animals together
- Species needing a high-output UVB lamp at a mounting distance this enclosure cannot give
- Fully aquatic setups — the base is waterproof, but the terrarium is not an aquarium
Care and maintenance
- Spot-clean daily. Strip and replace substrate on the schedule your species and substrate call for.
- Lift the screen top off using the twist lock rather than working around it. It is faster, and you are less likely to knock a lamp over.
- Clean the glass with a reptile-safe cleaner. Household glass cleaners leave ammonia residue.
- Check both door locks and the screen lock at every clean. They are the escape points.
- Stainless steel mesh will not rust, but misting leaves mineral deposits — soak and brush the screen when you strip the enclosure.
Goes well with
- Eco Tech EZY SET Digital Thermostat — every heat source in an enclosure this small needs one.
- Zoo Med Desert Sand — a loose substrate for arid setups.
- Eco Tech Dual Probe Digital Thermometer — reads warm end and cool end at once, which is how you confirm a gradient exists.
- Exo Terra Calcium + D3 Powder — dusting supplement for insect-fed species.
- Exo Terra Low Terrarium 45 × 45 × 30 cm — the next size up when 900 cm² is tight.
Warranty, delivery and Australian notes
Exo Terra warrants this terrarium against defects in materials and workmanship. Any manufacturer warranty applies in addition to the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded.
This is a glass item and ships as fragile. Check the carton for damage as soon as it arrives, before you unpack it.
Nothing in this terrarium is mains-powered, so the enclosure itself carries no electrical approval marking. Any heating or lighting you add must be 240 V, 50 Hz with an Australian plug, and any heat source must run through a thermostat.
Common questions
Does the Exo Terra Mini Wide Terrarium come with a background?
Yes. The Exo Terra Rock Terrarium Background is included and is pre-cut for wires and tubing. Lighting, heating, substrate and decor are not included.
Can I put a lamp straight onto the mesh top?
Yes. The stainless steel screen is made to take a dome fixture and lets UVB and infrared through. Check the lamp's own minimum mounting distance first, because a 30 cm-tall enclosure gives very little clearance.
Does the mesh top reduce UVB?
Yes. Any mesh absorbs part of the UVB passing through it, so the UV index reaching your animal is lower than a lamp's open-air chart figure. Measure with a UV meter rather than assuming the published number.
Can I use this as a bioactive enclosure?
Yes. The base is raised and waterproof, so it holds a drainage layer and damp substrate without leaking. At roughly 900 cm² of floor area it is a small bioactive volume, so it needs more frequent attention than a larger build.
Will a substrate heater work with this terrarium?
Yes. The bottom frame is raised specifically so a heat mat can sit under the glass. Run it through a thermostat with the probe inside the enclosure, not pressed against the mat.
Is a 30 cm cube big enough for an adult crested gecko?
For most arboreal geckos it is not a long-term adult enclosure. Check the current minimum footprint in Australian care guidance for your species, and treat this size as juvenile, quarantine or display housing.
