Exo Terra Canopy Cave
An elevated hide that finally gets used. The Exo Terra Canopy Cave is a wall-mounted arboreal hide that clips onto the terrarium glass above floor level, giving climbing species the raised, enclosed retreat they seek out naturally rather than a ground hide they'll ignore. It suits crested geckos, day geckos, tree frogs, anoles and other arboreal reptiles and amphibians that spend most of their time off the ground.
Key features
- Mounts above floor level – a self-adhesive clip fixes it to the glass at any height, so arboreal species get a hide at the altitude they actually use.
- Enclosed interior – a fully covered cave gives genuine security rather than an open shelf.
- Spyhole with static-cling cover – check on your animal or eggs without opening the enclosure or disturbing behaviour.
- Removable – lifts off the mounting clip for cleaning or repositioning.
- Holds substrate – line it with Exo Terra Forest Moss to create a humid nesting hide for egg-laying species.

Will it fit my enclosure?
At 22.9 cm tall and 17.8 cm wide, the Canopy Cave needs a terrarium with enough glass height to mount it clear of the floor and clear of any lighting or heating fixture above it. Measure your intended mounting spot before ordering – the clip is not adjustable in size.
What's included
- Canopy Cave hide
- Self-adhesive mounting clip
- Static-cling spyhole cover
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to arboreal and semi-arboreal reptiles and amphibians – crested geckos, day geckos, tree frogs and similar climbers. Not intended as a substrate-level hide for terrestrial or fossorial species, which generally ignore an elevated cave in favour of ground cover.
Care and maintenance
Lifts cleanly off the mounting clip for washing. Replace the adhesive clip if it loses grip after repeated removal – pressing it onto a clean, dry glass surface for at least 30 seconds gives the strongest hold.
Goes well with
- Exo Terra Forest Moss – lines the cave for a humid nesting hide
- Exo Terra Canopy Perches or vines – gives arboreal species a path to and from the cave
- A background or vine system tall enough to reach the mounting height you choose

Common questions
What height should I mount it at?
As high as your enclosure and your species' climbing habits allow, provided it stays clear of heat and light fixtures. Arboreal species will use a hide mounted well above the substrate far more readily than a ground-level one.
Can I use it as a nesting hide for egg-laying species?
Yes – line it with damp Exo Terra Forest Moss to create a humid nesting chamber, and use the spyhole to check on eggs without disturbing the hide.
Does the mounting clip damage the glass?
No, but it needs a clean, dry, oil-free surface to bond properly, and it's designed to be removable rather than permanent.
Is it suitable for humid, high-moisture terrariums?
Yes – it's designed for use in humid arboreal and rainforest setups as well as drier enclosures.
