Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable as a night-time heat source for reptiles and amphibians, and for viewing nocturnal species. Not suitable where you want complete darkness at night, because it still gives off a blue glow (a ceramic heat emitter gives none). It is not a UVB source, so species that need UVB (ultraviolet B, the part of sunlight reptiles use to make vitamin D3, which they need to absorb calcium) still need a separate UVB lamp.
Safety
- Run it on a thermostat so the enclosure cannot overheat.
- Use a ceramic socket rated for the wattage, and mount the bulb where the animal cannot touch it or behind a guard.
- The glass gets hot. Let it cool before handling and keep water off the lit bulb.
