Fluval 304/305 & 404/405 Impeller Cover
This cover only suits the flat-fan impeller — check yours before ordering.
This is the genuine Fluval A20156 impeller cover for the 304, 305, 404 and 405 canister filters — the current version of a part Fluval previously sold as A20155 (SP264). It sits over the impeller well in the motor head and is built for units fitted with the flat-fan impeller, not the curved-blade style used elsewhere in the range.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20156 — the current-issue cover for the 304 (A210), 305 (A211), 404 (A215) and 405 (A216).
- Supersedes A20155 / SP264 — Fluval updated the part number; the cover does the same job.
- Flat-fan impellers only — the wrong cover shape sits proud and either won't let the head seat or causes noise once it does.
- Cheap insurance — a cracked or missing cover is a common cause of impeller noise and premature wear, well short of a new motor head.

Fluval's 306/406 and 307/407 use a different motor head — we haven't confirmed this cover interchanges with those, so check yours first. Open the head and compare the impeller: flat-fan impellers have straight blades, not a curved profile. If yours matches and the impeller itself needs replacing too, see the 304/305/306 impeller assembly (flat fans).
What's included, and not included
Includes 1 x impeller cover. Does not include the impeller assembly, shaft or motor seal ring — see the companion parts below.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for a 304, 305, 404 or 405 with a cracked, warped or missing cover on a flat-fan unit. Not suitable if your impeller has curved blades — a different cover applies, and we don't currently list that part.
Care and maintenance
Check for hairline cracks at each strip-down. Brittle, chalky plastic on these older motor heads is common with age and usually splits the next time the head is opened.
Goes well with
- 304/305/306 impeller assembly, flat fans — for a worn or chipped impeller under this cover
- 304–407 motor seal ring — the seal at the head-to-case join
- 304–407 ribbed hosing, 14 mm — for perished or discoloured hose runs
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
What happened to part A20155?
Fluval superseded it with A20156. It's the same fit — only the part number changed.
Does this fit the 306 or 406?
Not confirmed. Those use a different motor head design, so check your existing cover against this one before ordering.
Can I keep running the filter with a cracked cover?
It will run, but debris can get into the impeller well and the motor tends to run noisier until it's replaced.
