Fluval 306/406 Impeller Cover
The cover that keeps the impeller seated and quiet in its well.
This is the genuine Fluval impeller cover, part A20154, for the Fluval 306 and 406 canister filters. It clips over the impeller well in the motor head and holds the impeller correctly seated against its magnet. Fluval lists it against these two models only — the 306 and 406 share the same impeller housing even though their impellers themselves are rated differently.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20154 — fits both the 306 and 406, which share the same impeller housing.
- Keeps the impeller correctly seated — a cracked or missing cover lets the impeller run loose against the housing, heard as a buzz or rattle from the motor head.
- Lets you check the impeller without a full strip-down — the cover is clear, so a quick look confirms the impeller is spinning freely.
- Cheap, quick fix — one of the least expensive parts on the filter and one of the most common causes of new noise after a service.

Fluval lists this cover only against the 306 and 406. It does not fit the 305/405, the 307/407 eTEC-motor generation, or the smaller 05 Series canisters (105/205, 106/206, 107/207) — each uses a differently shaped impeller housing.
What's included
- 1 x impeller cover
Not included
- The impeller, shaft and bushing. This is the cover, not the spinning assembly — see the 306 impeller assembly.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for a cracked, chipped or missing cover on a 306 or 406, and for new buzzing or vibration from the motor head after a service.
Not suitable for the 305/405, 307/407, or 05 Series canisters, which use a different-shaped housing.
Care and maintenance
Check the cover at every media service — it clips over the impeller well and a hairline crack is easy to miss until it lets the impeller run loose. Replace it as soon as a crack appears rather than waiting for the noise to worsen; a cover that fails completely can let impeller fragments reach the media.
Goes well with
- 306 impeller assembly — worth checking together if the motor head is buzzing
- Rubber hose adapter, 2 pack — cheap to replace at the same service
Warranty and delivery

Common questions
Does the A20154 cover fit a Fluval 307 or 407?
No. The 307 and 407 use the redesigned eTEC motor head and a different impeller housing.
My filter is buzzing since I last cleaned it — is this the fix?
Check the cover first for a hairline crack or a corner that isn't clipped down fully. It's the most common cause of new noise straight after a service.
Does this include the impeller?
No. This is the cover only. The impeller, shaft and bushing are a separate part.
Is the cover the same for the 306 and the 406?
Yes. Both models share the same impeller housing and take the same A20154 cover, even though their impellers are rated differently.
